A transdisciplinary approach to reconciliation practices and policies by an international team of scholars and scholar-practitioners.
The title of 'Helter Skelter', Tom Law's latest book, almost speaks for itself. Basically, due to human folly, the writing leads us to the world's end with perhaps the survival of just a few reverting to a pre high tech existence. The storyline is interwoven with political outpourings, observations and graffiti ramblings. Sequence is a problem as factual narrative merges into drama, futuristic fantasy and prediction. So be warned: the flow is deceptive as the text is driven into cataracts, over waterfalls and through chasms lined with sharp rocks and oblique boulders. The writing is at times confused, abstract and didactic.. in other words, unconventional! Never the less, apart from being confronting it is a worthwhile read hopefully with lessons to be learned. Although the tome displays bucket loads of negativity and evil, the coda is a final escape route to the possibility of an alternative and possibly something better. Touches upon all the current problems and dilemmas facing humanity.
A pioneering insight on how domestic political processes can have a crucial effect on how a country behaves at the global level.
While religion has fueled the often-violent conflict plaguing the Holy Land, Yossi Klein Halevi wondered whether it could be a source of unity as well. To find the answer, this religious Israeli Jew began a two-year exploration to discover a common language with his Christian and Muslim neighbors. He followed their holiday cycles, befriended Christian monastics and Islamic mystics, and joined them in prayer in monasteries and mosques in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza.At the Entrance to the Garden of Eden traces that remarkable spiritual journey. Halevi candidly reveals how he fought to reconcile his own fears and anger as a Jew to relate to Christians and Muslims as fellow spiritual seekers. He chronicles the difficulty of overcoming multiple obstacles?theological, political, historical, and psychological?that separate believers of the three monotheistic faiths. And he introduces a diverse range of people attempting to reconcile the dichotomous heart of this sacred place?a struggle central to Israel, but which resonates for us all.
In Researching Yugoslavia and its Aftermath, a common thread is the authors¿ path through the time and space context in which fieldwork has taken place. Accordingly, this collection tackles problems that have always existed but have not been dealt with in a single volume. In particular, it examines a range of methodological questions arising from the contributors¿ shared concerns, and thus the obstacles and solutions characterising the relationship between researchers and their objects of study. Being an interdisciplinary project, this book brings together highly regarded historians, sociologists, anthropologists, political scientists, cultural and social theorists, as well as experts in architecture and communication studies. They share a belief that the awareness of the researcher¿s own position in fieldwork is a precondition of utmost significance to comprehend the evolution of objects of study, and hence to ensure transparency and ultimate credibility of the findings. Moreover, the contributors come from diverse backgrounds, including authors from the former Yugoslavia and others who have made their way to the region after starting their research careers; some from universities in the area, others from institutions in the Global North. Here, they explore cross-cutting issues such as the repercussions of gender, nationality, institutional affiliation and the consequences of their entry into the field. This is examined in terms of the results of the research and the ethical aspect of the relationship with the object of study, as well as the implications of the chosen time framework in the methodological design and the clash between this decision and the interests of the actors studied.

If religion can foment conflict, it can also cultivate peace. This perspective underpins the essays in this book, which explore the past, present, and future roles of religion and spirituality in transforming political and social conflicts between and within nations.
This article is originally produced by Doug Porter and David Craig who are prominent writers in fields related to development studies and poverty reduction. Mr. Yirgalem Eshete tries to review this articles in the context of least developing countries, particularly Ethiopia. The article made clear that there is huge dissatisfaction in the approaches of pure capitalism and socialism that there is a need for a third way that reconciles the failures of the two extremes.

This book, rooted in the disciplines of theology and peace studies, reflects with and on war-affected communities in Colombia about transitioning from violence to peace. It argues that much that is significant for peace- building in situations of war escapes the notice of governments, human rights organizations, and academics because it is accomplished through a kind of agency they do not recognize. This book names that agency as constructive agency under duress and demonstrates its significance for peacebuilding by reflecting on a form that the author has seen operating in Colombia over nearly two decades.
