The first biography of the great American writer in over a decade
For Stephanie Battaglino, her lifelong journey of self-discovery closely paralleled her daily grind of trudging up the corporate ladder. Her ongoing struggle to come to terms with her authentic self was intertwined with her drive to have a successful career. While she longed to be recognized for her work, she hid from her true self for decades lost in a maze of shame, guilt, and denial.Amidst the successes and failures of working as a male in the corporate world, Stephanie finally realized that the only path to career fulfillment was to embrace her true self once and for all. That it resulted in her becoming the first officer in the history of New York Life to come out on the job as transgender is not surprising. What was surprising was her abrupt introduction to that generations-old nemesis of working women everywhere, the Glass Ceiling. What she quickly realized was that her embrace of her authentic self came with a price: the loss of male privilege. Reflections from Both Sides of the Glass Ceiling: Finding My Authentic Self in Corporate America is part memoir, part cautionary tale of what it is like to experience a career on both sides of the gender divide. Stephanie's frank, honest and vulnerable storytelling paints a vivid picture of what the intersection of gender and gender identity looks like from a decidedly unique point of view. In Reflections from Both Sides of the Glass Ceiling: Finding My Authentic Self in Corporate America Stephanie shares rare insight and perspective on what she learned from her experience transcending the Glass Ceiling to find personal and professional fulfillment. Stephanie's unique and very personal experience provides a powerful trailblazing story of inspiration, self-discovery, and triumph - for ALL women.

How might a S¿moan diasporic lens broaden our understanding of queer worlds?Queer worlds are often theorized using Western frameworks of knowledge systems and power. In this book, queer author and researcher Seutäafili Patrick Thomsen brings diversity to the discourse, by exploring the stories of Korean gay men in and between Seoul in Korea and Seattle in the US. Drawn from lived experience and the author's use of talanoa (Pacific research methodology), the book centres transnational, migrant and racialized realities - so contributing to the complication of West-centric ideas of gayness and coming out.Looking at the intersections of race, globalization, diaspora, religion and queer identity, these stories add richness and complexity to the field of Queer and LGBT+ Studies.
The Sexual/Political engages with contemporary political issues in sexuality through a survey of modern philosophy, psychoanalytic thought, 20th-century political theory, and more recent queer philosophies. The book investigates how the sexual has perturbed philosophical, political, and psychoanalytic thought and how this has fed into discrimination against the LGBTQI community. It analyses the social stigmas applied to public and private sexual acts and the psychopolitical processes leading to the prevalence of neo-fascist populism in Italy and the world. Tracing the history of sexuality through Freud, Marx, Fanon, and Foucault, among many others, Bernini considers why the sexual has always been an exceptionally difficult object to consider in political theory. This book will be of key interest to scholars in queer theory; antisocial theory; psychoanalysis and politics; drive theory; political philosophy; critical theory; LGBTQIA+ issues; gender and sexuality studies; and Italian studies. The Open Access version of this book, available at http://www.taylorfrancis.com, has been made available under a Creative Commons [Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives (CC-BY-NC-ND)] 4.0 license.

Originally published in 1987 during the panic around HIV/AIDS, The Regulation of Desire was the first book-length study of sexual regulation in what is currently called Canada. Drawing on his long experience in anti-capitalist groups, the gay liberation movement, anti-racist and anti-police organizing and AIDS activism, Gary Kinsman's investigation of the social forces that produce both sexual regulations and resistance and enforce queer, trans and Two-Spirit oppression laid the groundwork for subsequent studies of queer sexuality in "Canada" and beyond. It quickly became an essential work of scholarship and an expanded second edition appeared in 1996. Tracing a history from the beginning of colonization into the twenty-first century, Kinsman's historical-materialist approach attends to the specificities of race, class, and gender to show how desires, pleasures, and sexualities have been organized and regulated by state relations-in the service of patriarchal, capitalist, and imperialist relations. At the same time, Kinsman documents the emergence of Indigenous, gay, lesbian, and trans resistance, and the formation of queer and trans movements and communities. This third, expanded and updated edition of The Regulation of Desire includes new chapters on the rise of neoliberal queerness and the mainstreaming of white-defined homosexuality since the late 1990s, along with a new introduction by the author examining how the COVID-19 pandemic, the housing and poverty crisis, and the necessity of Indigenous liberation and police/prison abolition intersect with and transform the politics of queer liberation. This new edition also features a foreword by OmiSoore Dryden and afterword by Tom Hooper, plus updates to the text addressing topics such as the limitations of legal reform and same-sex marriage, and the emergence of transgender activism and abolitionist perspectives, moving far beyond limited rights approaches. Not only an important landmark in the field of sexuality and gender studies, The Regulation of Desire is also an engaged work of activism. In it, Kinsman illuminates the centrality of sexual politics in the struggle for social transformation, pointing towards an erotic, love-filled future without sexual, gender, and racial oppression or class exploitation.

Released in 1919, Anders als die Andern is a remarkable artefact of the pre-Stonewall homosexual rights movement of early-twentieth-century Germany. Ervin Malakaj shows how the film's "mournful cinema" is key to its endurance, fostering connection through emotions and acting as a springboard to engage in an intergenerational queer struggle.

That is why we have to take it into our own hands: so that it is not others who locate us, classify us and say who and how we should be. My name is Sion and I am the first person who conforms to the assigned gender who decided to abandon it aimlessly. I stopped being a male body to temporarily become Hannah.
