This is the first technical book that considers tests as public tools and examines how to engineer and process test data, extract the structure within the data to be visualized, and thereby make test results useful for students, teachers, and the society. The author does not differentiate test data analysis from data engineering and information visualization. This monograph introduces the following methods of engineering or processing test data, including the latest machine learning techniques: classical test theory (CTT), item response theory (IRT), latent class analysis (LCA), latent rank analysis (LRA), biclustering (co-clustering), and Bayesian network model (BNM). CTT and IRT are methods for analyzing test data and evaluating students' abilities on a continuous scale. LCA and LRA assess examinees by classifying them into nominal and ordinal clusters, respectively, where the adequate number of clusters is estimated from the data. Biclustering classifies examinees into groups (latent clusters) while classifying items into fields (factors). Particularly, the infinite relational model discussed in this book is a biclustering method feasible under the condition that neither the number of groups nor the number of fields is known beforehand. Additionally, the local dependence LRA, local dependence biclustering, and bicluster network model are methods that search and visualize inter-item (or inter-field) network structure using the mechanism of BNM. As this book offers a new perspective on test data analysis methods, it is certain to widen readers' perspective on test data analysis.
Creative research methods for data generation have expanded over recent decades and researchers are eager to take a creative approach to data analysis. It is challenging to bring creativity into data analysis while retaining a systematic, rigorous, and ethical approach. Written by experts in the field, this handbook addresses these challenges. The chapters adapt analytical techniques in creative ways for novice and expert researchers. Existing and novel methods from analysis of quantitative data to embodied, performative, visual, written, arts-based, and collaborative analysis are featured with case examples that are transferable across disciplines. This collection offers a definitive practical guide to creative data analysis.
With cross-cultural perspectives from contributors in nine countries, this book showcases much-needed research on current issues around migration and social work in Europe. Focusing on the reception, experiences and integration of refugees and asylum seekers, the chapters also consider the impact of recent EU policies on borders and integration. With racism on the rise in some European societies, the book foregrounds international social work values as a common framework to face discriminatory practice at macro and micro levels. Featuring recommendations for inclusive practice that 'opens doors', this book features the voices of migrants and the practitioners aiding their inclusion in new societies.

It is increasingly recognized that ethnonational frameworks are inadequate when examining the complexity of social life in contexts of migration and diversity. This book draws on ethnographic research in two UK secondary schools, considering the shifting roles of migration status, language, ethnicity, religion and precarity in young people's peer relationships. The book challenges culturalist understandings of social cohesion, highlighting the divisive impacts of neoliberalism, from pervasive temporariness and domestic abuse to technologization and neighbourhood violence. Using Martin Buber's relational model, the book explores the interplay of 'I-It' boundary-making with reciprocal 'I-Thou' encounters, pointing to the creative power of these encounters to subvert, reimagine and even transform social difference. The author provides a pragmatic and ultimately hopeful view of the dynamics of diversity in everyday life, offering valuable insights for social policy and practice.
This collection explores leading values and concepts in global child-based research through the lens of reflexivity. The book considers issues such as the identities and roles of researchers, as well as the burdens, boundaries, and ethical frameworks which govern their activities. Using empirical examples from Israel, India, Thailand, and England, expert contributors discuss a range of topics including online safety, disabilities, gang membership, safeguarding, sexting, and child prostitution. This book guides childhood research towards a more reflexive debate that critically challenges conventions, and highlights plurality of voice.
This book is a complete guide for television and podcast researchers and associate producers.
In Social Research for our Times researchers from the 50 years of UCL's Thomas Coram Research Unit share some of the most important results of their studies. Taking a unique opportunity to reflect on research context as well as findings, chapters address the key strategic question of what the relationship between research and policy should be.
Changes in surfactant 17R4 concentration influenced the physio-chemical characteristics of an oil- in-water emulsion the most. From the study, we can conclude that the physcio-chemical properties of an oil-in-water emulsion were mostly affected by the variations in the contents of surfactant 17R4 A and NaCl. The NaCl-surfactant-oil interactions had a strong influence on the stability of the prepared emulsion. Pluronic surfactant 17R4 when used in minimal amount (1%) alongside Ludox and 2mg NaCl resulted to the most stable emulsion which stood on the bench beyond 6months without any sign of creaming. Oil-in-water emulsion wastes may be effectively treated using the electrochemical destabilization method. The aluminum provided and the bulk pH are the two most critical factors in the process. Experiments with a steady-state pH outside of the 5¿9 range result in no emulsion break-up and, as a result, no COD elimination. In addition, the electrolyte has a significant impact on the outcomes. According to our second scheme, we found that nanoemulsion has the potentially help for enhancing the oral bioavailability of ibuprofen.
