Inspirational wisdom by Dr. Daniel DeGoede from his lifetime experience as a therapist. His books in Belief Therapy teach and inspire people to grow and change. To understand Belief Therapy, it is necessary to understand that the primary, most revolutionary and perhaps remarkable tenet of Belief Therapy is also its most simple. It is that: there is nothing wrong with us. We are already OK. There is nothing to fix and there never was. Oddly enough, it is often our attempts to fix ourselves that leads to our dis-ease.
This open access book brings together current childhood research and contemporary ethical theory to draw attention to how children depend upon a scope of action for risky play for their mental and physical development. In many countries, the opportunities for children to play away from adults' close attention have decreased. At both school and home, protection and avoidance of harm take increasing priority. This book draws a distinction between do-good ethics and avoid-harm ethics to highlight ethical tensions and dilemmas encountered by professionals who work with children, and suggests better ways to balance these ethical dimensions in approaching risky play.

Political and public stories about class and food rarely scrutinize how socio-economic and cultural resources enable access to certain foods. Tracing the symbolic links between everyday eating at home and broader social frameworks, this book examines how classed relations play out in middle-class homes to show why class is relevant to all understandings of food in Great Britain. The author illuminates how 'good' food, and the identities configured through its consumption, is associated with middle-class lifestyles and why this relationship is often unquestioned and thus saliently normalized. Considering food consumption in a wider social context, the book offers an alternative understanding of class relations, which extends academic, political and public debates about privilege.
Drawing from longitudinal research, this book shows how the perspectives of people who have been in care can help us redefine the concept of family. Through a narrative analysis of the complexity of family lives, the author challenges the idea that some families are 'ordinary', while others are troubled, problematic and 'other'.
In the absence of public provision, many governments rely on the market to meet childcare demand. But who are the actors shaping this market? What work do they do to marketize care? And what does it mean for how childcare is provided? Based on an innovative theoretical framework and an in-depth study of the New Zealand childcare market, Gallagher examines the problematic growth of private, for-profit childcare. Opening the 'black box' of childcare markets to closer scrutiny, this book brings to light the complex political, social and economic dynamics behind childcare provisioning.
What does mothering mean in different cultures and societies? This book extensively applies biographical and narrative research methods to mothering from international perspectives. This edited collection engages with changing attitudes and approaches to mothering from women's individual biographical experiences, illuminating how socially anticipated tasks of mothering shaped through interlinking state, media, religious beliefs and broader society are reflected in their identities and individual life choices. Considering trust, rapport, reflexivity and self-care, this collection advances methodological practice in the study of mothers, carers and childless women's lives.
Probably more people than you know spend the majority of their life and time working with others in an employment-related situation. And these people don't get to pick who their co-workers are. Unfortunately, not everyone knows how to get along with others. This can lead to all kinds of difficult situations, making it almost impossible to get through the day successfully.Working well with others is crucial in any situation. It is even more important in a workplace environment. Why? It boils down to things like efficiency, productivity and employee morale... just to name a few.The size of the company or business you work for really doesn't matter. The rules are basically the same if you work with one other person or 1,000. Each individual deserves the same level of consideration.During your job search, have you ever noticed the phrase "must work well with others" in the job description or on the application? If so, there's a very good reason for this. Employers do not want to hire individuals who don't work well with others. It typically causes problems right from the beginning.
Making Meaning is the first book to develop the idea of making meaning, defined as "having positive impact with one's actions." This is the greatest idea since everything has a meaning (an effect or relationship). It asks the life-or-death question does my life have enough meaning to continue to live it?This book answers this question by developing the following main sources (or avenues) of making meaning: 1) loving relationships, 2) a sense of community, 3) genuine dialogues, 4) ful- filling work, 5) possessions, 6) appreciating artworks, 7) search for God and 8) intangibles or non- physical realities consisting of our highest values such as goodness, beauty, free will, justice and big truths. I explain and argue at length for this source of intangibles, potentially the biggest. Making Meaning maintains that it ought to be thought of as objective or external standards to judge everything and to live by instead of the current highly subjective or wishy-washy relative ones. This book then attacks three major challenges to making meaning: 1) widespread meaninglessness, 2) nihilism and 3) extreme relativism. I propose three absolute absolutes to resolve these challenges. Finally, I define "the meaning of life" mostly in terms of the sources. A brief summary of the meaning of life from Socrates, Plato and Aristotle concludes the book.
The book provides - for the first time in the German-speaking world - a comprehensive scientific contribution to the reappraisal of sexualized violence in a psychotherapy institute. The qualitative case study takes a look at decades of abuse of power and sexualized violence by the director of an analytical institute for children and young people. It shows that the psychotherapists involved in this system do not live up to central ideas and concepts of their profession: Silence, denial, rationalization, rejection of responsibility, and ignorance of those affected have for a long time prevented the uncovering of the acts and sustainable forms of coming to terms with them. The life of the institute is characterized by a dialectical tension between the necessity of processing and the desire for undisturbed functioning. This dynamic also proves to be analogous to the problem-solving patterns of psychotherapeutic patients. The case points to fundamental problems in the fieldof psychotherapy, which are primarily related to a structural power imbalance and pronounced dependency relationships both in the context of training and in the treatment setting. The findings of this empirical study are used to derive professional and organizational ethical considerations and - based on these - to formulate concrete recommendations for the prevention of sexualized violence in psychotherapy institutes.

Life must be understood as the result of evolution, and human life as the emergence of the species Sapiens from the genus Homo of the family of apes. If the emergence of human life as an evolutionary fact is coupled with the notion of social life, we are referred to the constructive production of human life forms, of which social participation is an integral part. On the one hand, participation is tied back to the phylogenesis of the species Sapiens, but on the other hand, it has to be newly acquired and practiced by every human being in the process of ontogenesis, depending on the environment. Participation in old age is a separate specification of the conditions of this process and can be illustrated on the basis of a large number of empirical findings. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily interms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation.
