This is the first volume to comprehensively discuss the ethical, regulatory, and social aspects of xenotransplantation research.Organized into four parts, Xenotransplantation begins by examining ethical issues around informed consent of the potential xenograft recipient, the major ethical issues encountered when doing this research on pigs, and allocation issues. Part two examines regulatory aspects from a global perspective, specifically from three major regions of the world doing xenotransplantation research currently, of which include the United States, Western Europe, and Asia. Following this, part three describes religious aspects of xenotransplantation amongst the major world religions, including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and Hinduism. The book closes with an analysis of quantitative and qualitative studies conducted by the editors that assess the public¿s perception of xenotransplantation. Featuring original data collectedby the editors, this book is an instrumental resource for all clinicians involved in the research and practice of xenotransplantation.
Why would an innocent person ever confess to a crime they did not commit? Academia has conducted a great deal of research into this question and have routinely concluded that the actions of law enforcement officers and their interrogative tactics are largely responsible for these false confessions. Through the claims of academic researchers, expert witnesses, wrongful conviction advocates, defense attorneys, and even Hollywood producers, an ethos has been created which suggests that American law enforcement officers routinely overbear the will of criminal subjects and will stop at nothing in order to obtain a confession; even a false confession. This book finally brings balance to these flawed assertions by providing insights from real-world law enforcement officers who specialize in the field of criminal interrogation. This book also highlights the anti-law enforcement bias present within the academic community; the flawed and unrealistic research designs utilized to study the false confession phenomenon; and the rise of the lucrative false confession expert witness industry. In what can only be described as 'apoplectic,' academics have already equated the positions in this book to "arguing against the existence of climate change" and have pleaded that it "should never see the light of publication." At last, a book has been written that reconsiders the false confession phenomenon from a law enforcement perspective and ultimately paints a drastically different picture of what takes place inside of America's interrogation rooms. This book promises to offer a different take on what many so-called experts would have you believe about criminal interrogation; and it's one they don't want you to hear.
I was a police officer and special operations soldier for a combined 18 years. I had a loving wife, healthy kids, great friends, and perfect home. I was living the American dream. I trained my heart out every day to keep the peace in the community. Sacrificing my life and health to protect America both at home and over seas. Then I got involved in the infamous Breonna Taylor case. I was involved in the riots. I saw my friends getting hurt and maimed. I saw my community in flames. In a single moment I lashed out against a rioter. I was prosecuted and imprisoned and my American dream turned to tragedy for all involved.
"A propulsive story of a new breed of investigators who have cracked the Bitcoin blockchain, taking once-anonymous realms of money, drugs, and violence and holding them up to the light Black markets have always thrived in the shadows of society. Increasingly, these enterprises-drug dealing, money laundering, human trafficking, terrorist funding-have found their shadows online. Digital crime lords inhabiting lawless corners of the internet have operated more freely than their analog counterparts could have ever dreamed of. At the heart of their massive conspiracies: cryptocurrency. By transacting not in dollars or pounds but in Bitcoin-a currency with anonymous ledgers, overseen by no government, beholden to no bankers-black marketeers robbed law enforcement for years of their chief method of cracking down on criminal markets, namely, following the money. But what if the centerpiece of this dark economy held a secret, fatal flaw? What if their currency wasn't so cryptic after all? An investigator using the right mixture of technical wizardry, financial forensics, and old-fashioned persistence could crack open an entire world of crime. Men with No Names is a story of crime and consequences unlike any other. With unprecedented access to the major players in federal law enforcement and private industry, veteran cybersecurity reporter Andy Greenberg tells an astonishing saga of criminal empires built and destroyed. He introduces an IRS agent with a defiant streak; a Bitcoin-tracing Danish entrepreneur; and a colorful ensemble of hardboiled agents and prosecutors as they delve deep into the crypto-underworld. The result is a thrilling, globe-spanning story of dirty cops, drug bazaars, sex-abuse rings, and the biggest takedown of an online narcotics market in the history of the internet. This is a cat-and-mouse story and a tale of a technological one-upmanship that's utterly of our time. Filled with canny maneuvering and shocking twists, it answers a provocative question: How would some of the world's most brazen criminals behave if they were sure they could never get caught?"--
There's a thin blue line between fact and fiction. Blue Lies tells the story left out by the media. Domestic terrorism, denial of constitutional rights, wrongful prosecutions, stripping away qualified immunity, disarming and defunding police, all designed to weaken America's cops while emboldening the lawless. Radicals have declared war on American Justice. They hold public office as city council members, mayors, county prosecutors, state legislators, governors, members of congress and even the highest office in the land. Meanwhile, American police officers are being forced to fight a media battle while struggling to maintain law and order in our streets, as violent crime soars."Blue Lies: The War on Justice and the Conspiracy to Weaken America's Cops" dissects the systematic agenda of the radical left who has declared war on police. Combining statistical analysis, evidence based facts from high profile cases, and a career of personal experience, the author takes the reader on a literary "ride-along" behind the scenes of the most controversial issues facing today's blue warriors. Among those issues are police deadly force encounters, eliminating traffic stops, systemic racism in law enforcement, and the defund, disarm, and dismantle the police movements. With unparalleled insight, Sgt. Wolf delves into the consequences of "blue lies" - the distortion and manipulation of facts in an effort to sway public opinion. It challenges readers to question the narratives they encounter and to engage in a constructive dialogue that can lead to positive change and a stronger, more just society. In an era defined by polarization and mistrust, Sgt. Jeff Wolf's "Blue Lies: The War on Justice and the Conspiracy to Weaken America's Cops" serves as a beacon of truth, urging us to confront the complexities of the issues at hand and strive for a future where justice prevails and the bond between police and communities is restored.
Contemporary policing reflects the turn from welfare to domestic warfare as the chief means of regulating the excluded and oppressed
Bradley Kuhns was a regular guy who happened to be very good at his job. That was the troubled --- he was too good. Even worse, he was honest.A smart, exceptionally skilled polygraph examiner (lie detector examiner), felt honored to enter the ranks of the elite Los Angeles Police Department. He soon discovered, though, that by the 1980s when he joined LAPD the polygraph section was coasting on its reputation, filled with marginally competent examiners who routinely manipulated and falsified the results of lie detector exams in exchange for gifts of cash and liquor. Promotions were handed to those who played along, while the few who didn't might find themselves on the losing end of an "unfortunate accident."Brad Kuhns offers a disturbing memoir that details the intimidation, threats and attempts on his life. With his heart on his sleeve, he chronicles the toll the stress took on his health and weighs the heavy burden of fear and torment suffered by the women close to him. Kuhns ultimately went into hiding for two decades with only a select few trustworthy souls knowing the full extent of his chilling, touching story -- until now.
Racoons are not the only bandits wearing masks in the wilderness. Growing up, author Kennie Prince spent most of his time in the woods and creeks near his home in Rankin County, Mississippi. A highly skilled outdoorsman, Prince began his career with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Conservation in 1983 and dedicated his life to protecting Mississippi's fish and wildlife resources in dangerous undercover work. The Poacher's Nightmare: Stories of an Undercover Game Warden contains dozens of hair-raising accounts of covert wildlife operations, often spanning years, requiring ingenious planning, complicated secrecy, and deft coordination. Prince infiltrated bloody-minded, wary criminal groups, winning their trust. When his traps were fully set, he involved other state and federal law enforcement officials to bring an abrupt halt to abominable thefts of vast fish and wildlife resources from the public trust. Smart, creative, knowledgeable, tenacious, disciplined, passionate, and a natural-born actor, Prince bore a unique skillset that made him an ideal fit for this perilous undertaking. This memoir details how Prince gained the confidence of tightly knit circles of loyal, leery poachers and put an end to their destructive evil.

In 2011, recently elected Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker introduced his version of "dropping a bomb" with the Budget Repair Bill. A View from the Interior covers the thirty tense days following his announcement that would put an end to public unions in Wisconsin. One and a half million people descended upon the Capitol building in Madison, jamming its hallways and flooding its grounds to protest. Author Susan Riseling, Chief of Police, University of Wisconsin-Madison, offers a compelling insider's perspective of those protests, based on hundreds of pages of actual police reports and other documents from those history-making days.
This book explores communication in emergency call and response centers, taking an approach drawn from Conversation Analysis to examine how call-takers answer calls and the ways in which dispatch is issued in different contexts. It offers an original contribution to the study of the organization of emergency calls, the ways such calls are treated, and some of the practical problems that emerge when dealing with them. The author offers a systematic review of studies in the international field of the organization of emergency calls, while at the same time providing fresh case studies, illustrated with empirical materials, taken from audio- and video- recordings of the everyday activities of call and response centers. This book will be of interest to students and scholars of social interaction and may be appreciated by all scholars and practitioners working on the social management of emergency situations, including in fields such as Sociolinguistics and Pragmatics.
On January 6, 2021, the nation watched in horror as a violent mob stormed the United States Capitol building. It was an unprecedented attack on our democracy and its devastating consequences are still reverberating throughout our country. In the days that followed, it has become clear that prior to this tragic event, several federal agencies identified credible threats leading up to the MAGA I and MAGA II demonstrations in Washington D.C., yet many questions remain about how those threats were assessed and responded to.The General Accounting Office (GAO) report 'Capitol Attack' dives deep into these questions using open source data and related threat products to investigate what went wrong. Their findings show a complex web of intelligence gathering from multiple teams that was considered by some personnel but not acted upon until it was too late. With clarity borne from unwavering dedication to uncovering the truth - no matter how inconvenient or uncomfortable - GAO's careful analysis shines a light on weaknesses in both communication infrastructure as well as internal processes used for threat assessment at federal agencies spanning multiple administrations. This outstanding work serves not only to unearth lessons learned through tragedy but also demonstrates best practices academics, practitioners, business owners can leverage moving forward when investigating risk scenarios coming from any originator: foreign actors or groups sparked by social media platform manipulation of citizens right here at home.Capitol Attack should be required reading for anyone who places importance on security operations ¿Äì including national security experts, heads of state departments/agencies domestic safety organizations small business owners ¿Äì so they may better understand how they can protect themselves against future attack attempts while avoiding senseless loss of life. This book is annotated by Nimble AI and includes a Foreword by Cincinnatus; a variety of pithy, opinionated abstracts including scientific style, tldr, tldr one word, Explain It to Me Like I'm Five Years Old, and Action Items; tools for viewpoint diversity such as Red Team Critiques, and MAGA Perspectives; and a recursive summary with synopsis.
