India's attainment of Freedom in 1947 was historic. This event marked the birth of Pakistan, and the creation of the conflict on Kashmir as the centre of the debate. In the last six decades, Kashmir has faced political and terrorist activities that are separate from the rest of India and the topic of curiosity. Many national and international writers have written on various aspects of Satish Verma the Kashmir conflict. But Satish Verma has conducted extensive research on this topic. He has written "An Encounter with Pakistan Reality" in English and "Pakistan ki Hakikat se Ru-Ba-Ru" in Hindi. Having been an active journalist in Kashmir for many years, he has documented all his experiences and thoughts through the medium of books to bring it to his readers. From the birth of Kashmir, its history, socio-geographic significance, political representation, the pain of its citizens and the present condition- the book presents all this in an appropriate manner and in a chronological order. What is Article-370? Why does Pakistan claim its right on Kashmir? Such unanswered questions shall find answers in this book. The Shimla Accord of 1931, the helplessness of its migrants, Pakistan's conspiracies, terrorist's trickery and also the pain of the Kashmir Valley, the attitude of the Indian government, and the truth about Azad Kashmir are explained in simple words in this book. This is the reason that this book is not simply a book but a document.
"Democracy can never be secured - because it is not a system just to be implemented, but a way of life to be pursued" In 1945, the Danish civil society leader and advocate of democracy, Hal Koch, wrote these words in the aftermath of the Second World War. Denmark had just emerged from five years of German occupation during which democracy had been curtailed, and it was against this backdrop that Koch asked, and attempted to respond to, the question: What is democracy? Having served as a "classic text on democracy" in Denmark fr more than 75 years, the book has at last been translated into English, making its careful reflections and challenging questions available to an international audience.
This work, first published in German in 1911 introduced the concept of iron law of oligarchy. It is considered one of the classics of social sciences, in particular sociology and political science. This work analyzes the power structures of organizations such as political parties and trade unions. Michels' main argument is that all organizations, even those in theory most egalitarian and most committed to democracy - like socialist political parties - are in fact oligarchical, and dominated by a small group of leadership. The book also provides a first systematic analysis of how a radical political party loses its radical goals under the dynamics of electoral participation. The origins of moderation theory can be found in this analysis.
'A fascinating insider account' Grace Blakeley British democracy is on trial. We can no longer hold our leaders to account; the state has too much power; and the truth doesn't matter at all. Those we voted into government have nothing but contempt for the democratic system that got them there. When the Prime Minister illegally prorogued Parliament, barrister Sam Fowles was part of the team that took him to court, and won. The scenes of the police violently restraining women at a vigil for Sarah Everard shook the nation. In a high-profile parliamentary inquiry, Fowles proved the Met's actions fundamentally breached our right to protest. For decades, the Post Office pursued criminal prosecutions against its own employees, knowing the evidence was dodgy all along. Fowles helped reveal the rot at the heart of a trusted national institution. We shouldn't have to take our rulers to court just to get them to follow the rules. At a crucial juncture for British governance, Fowles urges us not to take our freedoms for granted.
An urgent and timely exploration of a British political system in peril - and what we must do to save it.For centuries, British identity has been shaped by ideas of exceptionalism, grandeur and competence. Yet British democracy is failing. Governments supported by a minority of voters are elected with enormous majorities under a deeply unrepresentative first-past-the-post system. The result has been failed leaders delivering wounding blows to the country's economy, prosperity and international image.Britain Is Better Than This explores what lies beneath this sense of malaise, revealing the structural and constitutional failures at the heart of a sclerotic political system. It sheds light on a culture of lies, distrust and corruption. It reveals fundamental flaws in core institutions, including the media, the House of Lords and the House of Commons. It draws on events such as the MP expenses scandal, Brexit, 'Partygate' and the farcical premiership of Liz Truss, as symptoms of a great nation at a turning point yet unsure of which way to turn. And it looks ahead, offering practical solutions to answer the key question of our time: What do we need to do to build a better future?'The most compelling, lacerating description of the Muppet Show that is British public life I have yet read.' Will Hutton'There can be no book more urgently needed than this one.' Steve Richards

This book offers a comparative, theory-grounded study of Maghrebi political parties since the Arab uprisings, specifically focused on Tunisia and Morocco in the first decade after the 2011 watershed elections.
