This book provides a comparative analysis and a systemic categorization of the Populist Radical Left Parties (PRLPs) in Western Europe.Institutional and socio-economic aspects have transformed the political culture of many modern democracies, leading to the creation of radical left-wing parties who, by combining a strongly populist political offer with the historical demands of the traditional left wing, are capable of electoral success. This book analyzes a range of different Populist Radical Left Parties (PRLPs) in Western Europe through in-depth case studies. The author uses statutes, internal documents, programs, election results, membership data, and international political literature combined with interviews with executives and national secretaries to describe and interpret the main features of PRLPs, their paths of formation and political transformation. This volume will appeal to scholars and students of political science and political sociology, media studies and anyone interested in trying to better understand European populism and the distinctions among its different forms.
"Stephen F. Knott has spent his life grappling with the legacy of President John F. Kennedy: JFK was the first president Knott remembers; he worked for Ted Kennedy's Senate campaign in 1976; and later he worked at the JFK Library in Boston. Moreover, his scholarly work on the American presidency has wrestled with Kennedy's time in office and whether his presidency was ultimately a positive or negative one for the country as a whole. After initially being a strong Kennedy fan, Knott's views began to sour during his time at the Library, eventually leading him to become a "Reagan Democrat." The Trump presidency led Knott to revisit JFK, leading him once more to reconsider his views. Coming to Terms with John F. Kennedy offers a nuanced assessment of the 35th president, whose legacy people continue to fight over to this day. Knott examines Kennedy through the lens of five critical issues: his interpretation of presidential power, his approach to civil rights, and his foreign policy toward Cuba, the Soviet Union, and Vietnam. Knott also explores JFK's assassination and the evolving interpretations of his presidency, both highly politicized subject matters. What emerges is a president as complex as the author's shifting views about him"--
Africa Without Politics is a book of three parts on the leadership crisis in Africa. This book is a complete rendition of what politics in Africa is, what it is not and what it ought to be. The author¿s digression created a masterpiece that introduced the African politics from a religious African perspective. The book gives a depth of insight into the cultural, political, social and economic sphere of the African continent making it easier for a non-African to travel through the length and breath of the continent acquainting himself with the African ways just by digesting the content of this great piece. Topics like unseen hands of the West, generation unborn, the tales of an African youth among others were expository of the backbones and the victims of this conspiracy of inept government all over Africa. It greatly lampooned the West in the most logical and pan-African terms on their perpetual interference in internal African affairs chiefly for economic interests.Africa Without Politics is a protest book hankering for a way out of the many problems Africa is embroiled in today.
Politics in the African continent has become the subject of winners-take-all and losers-have-none [especially after every election]! The mindset of majority among political stakeholders is centered on ¿ do ¿ whatever ¿ to - win ¿ whatever! This sort of survival of the fittest mentality has become a norm in [almost] all-political platforms across Africa. Several homes and communities are dejectedly forced into undeserved horrors and sorrowful experiences due to political leadership insensitivity - owing to political rivalry and unnecessary hostility between various parties. The experience of what obtains in politics around Africa is nothing to-be-called Democracy but Autocracy! It is no longer the: Government of the people, Government by the people, Government for the people! Rather it¿s all about: Government of the political leaders, Government by the political leaders, Government for the political leaders! [In the light of] such character lacuna [among governmental leadership] in Africa ¿ also the continually observed political/public leadership character deficiencies comes the birth of this resource ¿ Political leaders¿ character devotional!
To get ahead today, you have to be a jerk, right?Divisive politicians. Hateful pundits. Angry campus activists. Twitter trolls. Today in America there is an ?outrage industrial complex? that prospers by setting American against American, creating a ?culture of contempt??the habit of seeing people who disagree with us not as merely incorrect, but as worthless and defective. Maybe, like more than nine out of ten Americans, you dislike it. But, hey, either you play along or you'll be left behind, right?Wrong. In Love Your Enemies, the New York Times bestselling author and social scientist Arthur C. Brooks shows that abuse and outrage are not the right formula for lasting success. Brooks blends cutting-edge behavioral research, ancient wisdom, and a decade of experience leading one of America's top policy think tanks in a work that offers a better way to lead based on bridging divides and mending relationships.Brooks's prescriptions are unconventional. To bring America together, we shouldn't try to agree more. There is no need for mushy moderation, because disagreement is the secret to excellence. Civility and tolerance shouldn't be our goals, because they are hopelessly low standards. And our feelings toward our foes are irrelevant; what matters is how we choose to act.Love Your Enemies offers a clear strategy for victory for a new generation of leaders. It is a rallying cry for people hungry for a new era of American progress. Most of all, it is a road map to find the happiness that comes when we choose to love one another, despite our differences.

This provocative book addresses the ideological and political crisis of the Western left, and presents a radical critique of the current state of the Western left which puts discourse above class interest and politics of diversity above politics of social change.
This book examines and explains the Center-Left's political decline since 2008, whilst analyzing the factors that account for its sagging electoral and popular support, losing voters both to the Far-Left, the Far-Right, and abstentions.Focusing on the era since the 2008 financial crisis in particular, while also charting the historical genealogy that led to the current impasse, the book examines how, when and why the collapse of Europe's Center-Left occurred. Moving beyond existing and slightly dated accounts, the contributors explore why Social Democrats lack compelling answers to pressing current policy challenges. Faced with a decline in its core clientele, namely blue-collar workers, the Center-Left is being outflanked and risks permanently jeopardizing its erstwhile status as representing a catch-all party. Exploring one of the more pressing and timely political puzzles of the contemporary political scene in Europe, the book identifies six factors that have driven the decline of the Left and examines them systematically across eight countries: France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Austria, the Netherlands, and Denmark. This book will be of particular interest to both scholars and students of social democracy, political parties, and the politics of the Left and more broadly to those interested in European and comparative politics, governance, and contemporary history.

Uncovers the politics involved when a city recruits and implements a presidential convention.
With a New Afterword In 2008, Barack Obama's groundbreaking presidential campaign seemingly rewrote all the rules in electoral politics and heralded a new progressive era in America. What has become of the thrilling grassroots political movement that defined Obama's campaign and reshaped the electoral map? Ari Berman's Herding Donkeys answers and illuminates this vital question, mapping the evolution of modern American politics from Howard Dean to the Tea Party, and painting a vivid picture of the fight for political power in America today.
For most of the last century, William F. Buckley Jr. was the leading figure in the conservative movement in America. The magazine he founded in 1955, "National Review," brought together writers representing every strand of conservative thought, and refined those ideas over the decades that followed. Buckley's own writings were a significant part of this development. He was not a theoretician but a popularizer, someone who could bring conservative ideas to a vast audience through dazzling writing and lively wit. Culled from millions of published words spanning nearly sixty years, "Athwart History: Half a Century of Polemics, Animadversions, and Illuminations" offers Buckley's commentary on the American and international scenes, in areas ranging from Kremlinology to rock music. The subjects are widely varied, but there are common threads linking them all: a love for the Western tradition and its American manifestation; the belief that human beings thrive best in a free society; the conviction that such a society is worth defending at all costs; and an appreciation for the quirky individuality that free people inevitably develop.
