The book provides readers with a snapshot of recent research and industrial trends in field of industrial acoustics and vibration. Each chapter, accepted after a rigorous peer-review process, reports on a selected, original piece of work presented and discussed at the Fourth International Conference on Acoustics and Vibration (ICAV2022), which was organized by the Tunisian Association of Industrial Acoustics and Vibration (ATAVI) and held in hybrid format on December 19¿21, 2022, in and from Sousse, Tunisia. The contributions cover advances in both theory and practice in a variety of subfields, such as structural and machine dynamics and vibrations, fault diagnosis and prognosis, nonlinear dynamics, and vibration control of mechatronic systems. Further topics include fluid¿structure interaction, computational vibro-acoustics, vibration field measurements, and dynamic behavior of materials. This book provides a valuable resource for both academics and professionals dealing with diverse issues in applied mechanics. By combining advanced theories with industrial issues, it is expected to facilitate communication and collaboration between different groups of researchers and technology users.
Biotremology is a new and emerging discipline in biological sciences that covers all aspects of behavior associated with substrate-borne mechanical waves. This volume provides state-of-the-art reviews and technical contributions from leading experts and invited younger researchers on topics from signal production and transmission to perception in its ecological context. Reviews about the knowledge of well-studied groups are complemented with perspectives on the study of less-explored groups or contexts. Special attention is given to practical issues in measuring substrate-borne vibrations as well as to applied biotremology. The book appeals to all those interested in communication and vibrational behavior.
This book features an extensive index and all Mathcad worksheets.Vinyl is back, tubes/valves are back, on the high-end field SMD-free analog amplification surpasses digitalized chains, and top microphone manufacturers still set on good old op-amps or on fully discrete BJT, FET, and/or tube-driven amplifiers. There is only one problem that is not satisfyingly well solved by the manufacturers: It is the noise production of the active components and the useful reflection in simulation tools, in tables or graphs of the datasheets/data books.Nowadays, mostly surrounded by many digital helping tools, it makes sense using them-also by analog aficionados. It saves cost and time simulating first before spending money. Presented in this book the software tool LTSpice which is the free software solution from Linear Technology (today Analog Devices) that could also be used by full analog lovers to simulate the noise production of their amplifier design. All we need is the right creation approach to develop simulation models for the active components. Inter alia this is already done for tubes and BJTs in the 2nd editions of my "e;How to Gain Gain"e; and "e;Balanced Phono-Amps"e; books. For op-amps, the missing approaches are presented in the book on hand.It cannot be denied that mathematical software like Mathcad is extremely helpful to find the right equations for graphically presented noise curves which we can find in the literature. Nevertheless, it also works well with other types of math software to fulfill the parameter needs of the here presented modeling approaches for the input referred voltage and current noise of-not only-excellent sounding vintage op-amps, applicable in the audio range from 1 Hz to 100 kHz.
This technical book focuses on the acoustic analysis of weak points in a comprehensible manner. This reliably helps the designer and acoustician to understand the noise development of machines and systems and to develop suitable primary and secondary noise reduction measures. Selected application examples from practice support the user in developing his own ideas for the implementation of product-related noise reductions.
This book deals concisely and coherently with various issues related to electroacoustic waves in piezoelectric layered composites.Starting with the basic linear equations and relations of electromagnet elasticity of homogeneous anisotropic piezoelectric media, the book considers the conditions for possible field or partial conjugation of physical and mechanical fields at the junction of two homogeneous media with geometrically homogeneous surfaces. The variety of electromechanical boundary conditions and the separation of plane and anti-plane fields of elastic deformation in homogeneous piezoelectric crystals are discussed. Then, the statements of the electroacoustic problem in piezo textures are studied and a layered piecewise-homogeneous piezoelectric waveguide is introduced, with non-acoustic contact between different piezoelectric layers.Non-acoustic contact between different piezoelectric layers can lead to the propagation of a hybrid of electroactive waves of plane and anti-plane elastic deformations. In the last part of the book, the problem of controlling electroacoustic waves in a waveguide is formulated. A method for solving problems of control of electroacoustic waves by non-contact surface action is proposed.
Introduction to Experimental Methods succinctly explains fundamental engineering concepts in mechanics, dynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics. From conceptualizing an engineering experiment to presenting the results with lab experiments, this book enables students to work through the design process and analyze experimental results.
This book explores how a young boy and his Dad use a magical mantra to entice the ocean to produce surfable waves in Hawaii. It explores Littlewood's Law of Miracles and the theory of large numbers. Fully illustrated withbeautiful pictures throughout.
The book investigates acoustic cloaking for elliptical targets, starting from the development of a systematic approach to deal with such non-axisymmetrical shapes by adopting transformation acoustics in elliptic coordinates, and concluding with numerical and experimental validation of a microstructured cloak in the underwater environment. The book thus comprises all the steps from theory to practice that led to the first experimental validation of acoustic invisibility for non-cylindrical objects, whose results are presented in the last chapter. Indeed, despite Transformation Theory is now an established tool to design material distributions capable to unlock the design of invisibility devices, it is not trivial to apply it for shapes different than the sphere and the cylinder, which are thus the ones mainly addressed in the literature. This book paves the way for exploration of other shapes, demonstrating the effectiveness of a pentamode cloak in reducing the acoustic visibility of anelliptical target, and discussing design choices that can make the implementation of the required microstructure less cumbersome despite the lack of axial symmetry of the problem, from both the numerical and manufacturing point of views.

Lean Manufacturing Systems (LMS) have attracted serious attention among practitioners and researchers in recent years. The principles and practices of Lean Manufacturing (LM) were not only implemented in manufacturing organizations, but also in service organizations. Although numerous articles dealing with the theory and practice of LM have been published, ironically, not many organizations have been successful in implementing the LMS and demonstrating a significant improvement in performance similar to that of Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC). Many researchers have pointed out that one of the reasons for the same is that there is an improper understanding among the practitioners regarding LMS. However, implementing change management programs like LMS requires a thorough understanding of the constituents of LMS, performance measures of LMS, implementation procedure of LMS, and assessment of LMS. In addition, it is also necessary to analyze whether the implementation of LMS is justified. However, it is believed that such fundamental issues are not yet addressed completely in the literature of LM. Hence, there is a need to study the design and assessment of LMS. newline this research, a detailed literature review is carried out to understand the current status of LM and to identify the research gaps. To resolve some of the research gaps, a comparative analysis of various LM frameworks and frequency analysis of the LM elements is performed based on which a conceptual framework for LMS and an implementation framework for LMS is proposed. The proposed frameworks are validated using a case study. Similarly, a frequency analysis is carried out for to identify the performance measures of LM based on which a new Performance Measurement System (PMS) framework for LMS was proposed by modifying the balanced scorecard approach.
