The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali is the most authoritative text on Yoga as a practice. It is also known as the Yoga Darshana because it is the fundamental text of Yoga as a philosophy (though practice is discussed), one of the six orthodox systems (darshanas) of Sanatana Dharma, the Eternal Religion. There is no need to have "faith" in these texts, for their statements can be verified by any reader, as has been done over thousands of years by countless yogis in India. A virtual army of self-realized men and women have proved their veracity and accuracy. Many of them are living right now as witnesses to the truth of Sanatana Dharma, which is based on the principle that all sentient beings are destined to attain liberation-union with divinity-since they are eternal parts of the Supreme Spirit, the Purushottama. In Yoga: Science of the Absolute, Swami Nirmalananda draws on the age-long tradition regarding this essential text, including the commentaries of Vyasa and Shankara, the most highly regarded writers on Indian philosophy and practice, as well as I. K. Taimni and other authoritative commentators, and adds his own ideas based on half a century of study and practice.Serious students of yoga will find this an essential addition to their spiritual studies.

The Upanishads are ancient Sanskrit texts of spiritual teaching and ideas of Hinduism. They are the part of the oldest scriptures of Hinduism, the Vedas, which deal with meditation, philosophy, and spiritual knowledge.
Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Theology - Hinduism, grade: 1,5, University of Tubingen (Anglistik), course: It's just Emotions? On the role of Affects and Emotions, language: English, abstract: The importance of animals in human lives differs greatly from one person to another, especially from one culture to the other. Animals of all kinds have always been omnipresent for mankind ¿ for the purposes of domestication, as workers, as companions, as tools or as resources in the form of food for consuming. They appear in ancient cave paintings, and nowadays on commercial farms. As long as humanity existed, animals have always played an important role and society could not have advanced to the point it has today.Nevertheless, there are different perceptions of animals and how they are treated. A popular instance is the case of dogs. In some cultures, like the United States or the United Kingdom, they are loved and considered a great pet to have with the family and at home. In other cultures, such as those where Islam is the majority religion, dogs may be perceived as dirty or dangerous. In China, milk-fed puppies are considered a delicacy. So why do human beings assign different levels of importance to animals? In Hinduism, every single living being possesses a soul, from the animals down to the insects and tiny organisms. In their belief system, like human beings, animals are also beings and subject to the cycle of birth and death and the laws of nature. Hinduism is a compassionate religion and treats all living beings with great respect. This could be one explanation why animals occupy an important place in Hinduism. According to that, Hindus have special feelings about animals and treat them in another way then people of other religions and cultures do. A widespread view of Jains, Buddhists and Hindus is that animals should not be used by humans as food or for other purposes. Differing attitudes and beliefs regarding the relationship of humankind to other creatures lies in the inner motivation of how to see and treat them and is expressed in forms of emotions and feelings towards the animals. Therefore, the human-animal-relationship, in a Hinduist way of life, depends on their belief system and hence emotions and feelings are coherent with that. Accordingly, faith determines how these people, who belong to the oldest religion in the world, feel about animals.

This book details the developmental history of narratives that affirm, condemn, modify, or ignore the controversial execution of ¿amb¿ka, a minor R¿m¿yäa character of low social standing. Changing socio-political sentiments throughout Indian history have forced numerous revisions to the ¿amb¿ka story, placing it in an underappreciated position of influence.
For peace and happiness in our lives, the study of the holy lives of Saints is the most effective means within our reach. Sri Thakur Satyananda is one such God- realised Saint, who had graced this modern age in the 20th century: he is deeply revered as the human reincarnation of the Supreme Godhead. And since he was completely averse to any form of publicity during his own lifetime (1902- 1969), little is known about him to the world at large. But now the time has come to delve into the ocean-like expanse of Sri Thakur's magnificent Divinity that found its outlet through a dazzling array of channels: religion, spirituality, humanitarian service, education, literature, music, drama, and so many other ways. The author, who is a devotee of Sri Thakur, has made a humble attempt to portray just a glimpse of that awe-inspiring splendour in this volume, the first part of a larger series. Reading this book will provide us with soothing feelings of inner joy, security and calmness as we navigate the twists and turns of our daily lives. May the blessings of Sri Thakur get showered upon all...!!
