Judaism: Ideas, People, and Rituals is a collection of Jewish gems - each essay sparkles with knowledge and originality. Whether Rabbi Dov Peretz Elkins is showing the Jewishness in Thoreau's thinking, or tackling knotty questions about divine revelation, he approaches his subject with authority, clarity and utter honesty. He has culled together sermons and portraits of figures and movement to display and share his wisdom with us, his readers and students. The topics are divided into three areas of Jewish vision, relationship, and practice. Rabbi Elkins treats us to some wonderful insights about all three areas. He explores how Judaism offers us a path to meaning, purpose, belonging and blessing. He mines Jewish tradition, introduces influential teachers, and shares his own unique and powerful rabbinic voice. There are wide ranging subjects, from human sexuality in Judaism, to hearing the sound of the Shofar. This work displays the knowledge, breadth, and insights of Rabbi Elkins's learning that he shares so clearly and brilliantly. This book opens up new worlds to explore. We are all the beneficiaries of his teachings and knowledge!

In 2016, the Israeli Supreme Court ruled that Max Brod's posthumous papers which included a collection of Kafka's manuscripts be transferred to the National Library of Israel in Jerusalem. If Kafka's writings may be seen to belong to Jewish national culture and if they may be considered part of Israel's heritage, then their analysis within a Jewish framework should be both viable and valuable. This volume is dedicated to the research of Franz Kafka's late narrative "The Burrow" and its autobiographical and theological significance. Research is extended to incorporate many fields of study (architecture, sound studies, philosophy, cultural studies, Jewish studies, literary studies) to illustrate the dynamics at work within the text which reveal the Jewish aspects implicitly thematicized. Examination of the structure created, the nature of sound perceived, the atmosphere experienced and the acts performed by the protagonist serve as the foundation of this analysis and offer new access to Kafka's work by presenting an interpretive, space-semantic approach. "Der Bau" is presented as a life concept given the task of constituting identity, highlighting the critical link between the literary and biographical Kafka and demonstrating the necessity of understanding the author as a Jewish writer to understand his late narrative. For her outstanding research project, Andrea Newsom Ebarb was awarded the "Forschungsförderpreis der Vereinigung der Freunde der Universität Mainz e.V." in 2023.

Haggadat Hapesah by Rabbi Avi Grossman is the first Haggada to be used at a Passover seder with the Korban Pesah as the rightful centerpiece in Jerusalem, and includes a remarkably familiar but updated text, simple instructions, and explanations regarding the practices that were once done at the seder and will, God willing, be renewed soon along with the rebuilding of the Holy Temple and the reinstitution of the sacrifices.¿Haggadat Hapesah is approved by the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi David Lau, and many other scholars.
Haggadah Min HaMeitzar is liturgically traditional, visually beautiful, ideologically progressive, and discursively provocative. It uses a complete traditional text and translation, paired with original commentary and art, thought-provoking quotations, and discussion prompts. The art functions as a form of commentary and provides another layer to discuss. The commentary focuses on four voices, corresponding to the four names of Passover:Chag HaCheirut/Festival of Freedom: a progressive voice prompting discussion on the meanings of liberation and oppression in the Exodus story and today.Chag HaAviv/Springtime Festival: an environmental voice making connections between the Passover seder, ecology, and regrowth and regeneration.Chag HaPesach/Passover: a meta-commentary about how we tell our stories, the voices that get shared and the voices that do not get shared enough.Chag HaMaztot/Matzah Festival: a voice about embodiment and the tangible and sensory aspects of the seder.

Jewish settlement in Asia, beyond the Middle East, is largely a modern phenomenon. Imperial expansion and adventurism by Great Britain and Russia were the chief motors that initially drove Jewish settlers to move eastwards, in the nineteenth century, combined as this was with the rise of port cities and general development of the global economy. The new immigrants soon become centrally involved, in ways quite disproportionate to their numbers, in Asian commerce. Their role and centrality finished with the outbreak of World War II, the chaos that resulted from the fighting, and the consequent collapse of Western imperialism. This unique, ground-breaking book charts their rise and fall while pointing to signs of these communities' post-war resurgence and revival. Fourteen chapters by many of the most prominent authorities in the field, from a range of perspectives, explore questions of identity, society, and culture across several Asian locales. It is essential reading for scholars of Asian Studies and Jewish Studies.
