This 21 day prayer guide is purposed for leading God's people back to the cross, where the proper perspective of who God is and who we are compel holy living, sacrificial service and bold evangelism. Bible study and prayer are the conduit through which spiritual renewal ignites a Christian's heart with the passion and zealousness for living as an ambassador for Jesus Christ. Prayer is to bend our will to God's will, not God's will to ours. This practical application-styled prayer guide helps Christians one day at a time move closer to God and position themselves deeper in His will, which is to reconcile all of creation to Himself. Go on a journey over the next 21 days and find yourself igniting revival in your heart and in your church!
Award-winning poet Diane Glancy’s radical approach to the perennial mystery of suffering takes the trials of Job—the just man unjustly punished—into the New World.
Increasingly, many Christians and spiritual seekers feel that they are in a sort of wilderness space where the familiar, settled, and normal parts of life have become unsettled, out of balance. More and more people are evaluating their lives and asking, Where to now? In Life Unsettled, author Cory Driver uses the metaphor of wilderness journeying (a hallmark of the life of faith across the millennia) and the study of biblical texts, ancient Jewish legends, modern theological insights, and his own personal journeys to provide a guide for moving forward when we feel lost and confused. The biblical book of Numbers takes center stage in the author's creative musings about life in the wilderness. The Hebrew title of Numbers is Bemidbar, which means literally, in the Wilderness. In this oft-overlooked book are stories of God's passionate intimacy and anger, communal formation and struggles, and personal failures and triumphs. The author shows how the wilderness journey in Numbers has deep relevance for our time and personal journeys. The book includes a discussion guide ideal for group use.
This book is a daily dose of motivation and the extra push to get one through a trying time.

The 23rd Psalm is a short little chapter of the Bible; there are only six verses and 118 words in the King James Version of the Psalm, and seventeen of them are pronouns in the first person. It is that personal element that makes the Psalm so incomparably powerful and appealing in its message - it finds an echo in the heart of all humanity. If you study the passage, contemplate its message, and believe it in your heart, then your life will begin to change in ways that you can't even begin to comprehend. A magnificent plan for your life is spelled out exactly in the words of the 23rd Psalm... it is waiting inside the pages of this book for you to discover.

To the unstudied eye, St. Matthew's gospel can seem a terse narrative, almost a historical document and not the tremendously spiritual (and doctrinal) storehouse that it is. In his third volume of meditations on Matthew (chapters 19-25), Erasmo Leiva continues to show Matthew's prose to be not terse so much as economical--astoundingly so given its depth. The lay reader can derive great profit from reading this. Each short meditation comments on a verse or two, pointing to some facet of the text not immediately apparent, but rich with meaning. Leiva's work is scholarly but eminently approachable by the lay reader. The tone is very much of "taste and see how good the Lord is" and an invitation of "friend, come up higher!." The goal of the book is to help the reader experience the heat of the divine heart and the light of the divine Word. Leiva comments on the Greek text, demonstrating nuances in the text that defy translation. He uses numerous quotes from the Fathers and the Liturgy of the Church to demonstrate the way the Tradition has lived and read the Word of God. His theological reflection vivifies doctrine by seeking its roots in the words and actions of Jesus.
Provides the reader with insights and tools to enrich his/her spiritual practice through "passive" meditative techniques, which involves stilling the conscious mind, and "active" meditative techniques, using guided visualizations and interaction with others. These are derived from Christian contemplative and Eastern meditation traditions. Unique to this handbook are exercises for couples and families. Included is a thirty-day plan of contemplation on Christ.
Modern Christians are steeped in a language so distorted that it has become a stumbling block to the religion, says internationally renowned Bible scholar Marcus J. Borg. Borg argues that Christianity's important words, and the sacred texts and stories in which those words are embedded, have been narrowed by a modern framework for the faith that emphasizes sin, forgiveness, Jesus dying for our sins, and the afterlife. Here, Borg employs the ?historical-metaphorical? method for understanding Christian language that can restore for us these words of power and transformation. For example, Redemption: now narrowly understood as Jesus saving us from sins so we can go to heaven, but in the Bible it refers to being set free from slavery. Savior: now refers to Jesus as the one who saves us from our sins, but in the Bible it has a rich and wonderful variety of meanings having nothing to do with the afterlife. Sacrifice: now refers to Jesus's death on the cross as payment for our sins, but in the Bible it is never about substitutionary payment for sin.In Speaking Christian, Borg delivers a language for twenty-first-century Christians that grounds the faith in its deep and rich original roots and allows it once again to transform our lives.
When we are going through tough times, we need to turn to the light of Gods love, but we often find it difficult to do so. This book will help readers move toward God and away from hopelessness and despair. Guntzelman offers us new ways of looking at our situation as well as reminders to trust in the Lord and his plan for our lives. Each of the one hundred reflections in this book begins with a Scripture verse, followed by a short reflection and prayer. As we open our hearts and minds to God in this way, he will comfort and sustain us through the hard times in our lives. Short reflections are perfect for busy people or for those who find it difficult to pray for long periods of time. Makes a thoughtful gift.
