This second volume delves into the intricate dynamics that surrounded the use of Scripture by North African Christians from the late-fourth to the mid-seventh century CE. It focuses on the multivalent ways in which Scripture was incorporated into the fabric of ecclesial existence and theological reflection, as well as on Scripture's role in informing and supporting these Christians' decision-making processes. This volume also highlights the intricate theological and philosophical deliberations that were carried out between and among influential North African Christian leaders and scholars-in diverse cultural and geopolitical settings-while paying attention to the complex manner in which these Scripture-laden discourses intersected the wide variety of religious opinions and ecclesiastical and/or theological movements that so clearly marked this region in this era.

Wisdom is what you need to make good decisions. What behavior do you adopt when facing trials? Is self-confidence biblical or is it incompatible with trusting God? Do you become a robot when you depend on God? Would you like to make decisions in accordance with God's plan for your life? Is it a lack of faith when you cogitate before making decisions? When and how can you use the mind that God has given you? Since God is the source of all your possessions, do you still have to plan and save your money? Can wisdom help you avoid debt? Can you serve God and know happiness on earth at the same time? If you wish to reflect on these questions, this book is for you! In this book, the author demonstrates in a practical way that the wisdom of God is indispensable in all areas of our lives. To possess this wisdom is to have God Himself as a guide and counselor in our choice of career or life partner, in our family lives, in the education of our children, in our finances, in the way we use social media, and in the way we practice Christian ministry. Everyone needs wisdom every day and in everything. When we make our decisions with God's wisdom, His grace and power will work together to accomplish whatever we undertake; then, we can be successful and prosperous. Enjoy your reading!
Do you wonder how a thick book with thin pages of fine print written centuries ago remains the world's all-time best seller? Matchless stories occupy nearly half the Bible, but you need to know they exist and where to find them. In Watching God Woo the World, author Ruth E. Correll brings the Bible's great story to life through accounts that include both genders. This guidebook features more than seventy selected Bible stories of the all-encompassing human male and female linkages in the family of origin, sexual encounter(s), and other functional affiliations in the wider community. In the book, they are labeled like this:BLOOD: father, daughter (FD); mother, son (MS); brother, sister (BS);SEX: husband, wife (HW); not married (NM); orPEERS: peers in the plot (PP) with no blood or sexual ties. These three kinds of bonds flow from the triune God's all-encompassing love that offers a true family identity, ready mercy to heal and to bless, and graceful guidance into a life of good will and service.Correll, who has witnessed Bible stories stir and inspire adults for over fifty years, presents keen insights into the Bible, which gives witness to the character, actions, and purposes of God.

The theme of When Angels Sat Down is taken from Day 61 in Footsteps in the Snow. That article focuses on two passages. The first is in Matthew 28: "An angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it" (v. 2). The second is in John 20: "And she (Mary) saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain (v. 12). Angels were present at the birth of Jesus. They ministered to Him after He was confronted by Satan in the wilderness and in the Garden of Gethsemane. Before going to the cross, Christ said He could call on more than twelve legions of angels (Matthew 26:53). But the Lord's work of salvation at Calvary was entirely His own: the angels could only stand in wonder as the Lord of life sacrificed His life for our redemption. Angels, however, were present to announce His resurrection. And it is at the resurrection we see them doing something they were not created to do. They sat down. Angels are the ministers of God and constantly fulfil holy activities. So to see them sitting down is very interesting. In the simple acts of sitting down on the stone that was rolled away and in the place where Jesus had been lain in the tomb we have vivid reminders of the finished work of Christ and the glory of His resurrection. This series of books was written to be read day by day or simply opened at any page to find a self-contained reflection on a Bible passage. In is intended that these bite-sized readings would stimulate daily Bible reading and encourage further study. The readings that appear on Sundays have a particular reference to worshipping the Lord in the light of His request that we remember His death (see Luke 22:19-20 and 1 Corinthians 11:23-26). It appears from Acts 20:7 to be a practice the early church adopted. From this place of worship, I believe we enter each new week in discipleship and service. By remembering Christ's love for us, we are inspired to serve Him and each other in love.I hope that When Angels Sat Down will encourage its readers, like the angels, to pause and reflect on the power and majesty of the Person and work of Jesus.

Hildegard of Bingen (1098 '1179) describes the virtue of Fortitude teaching the other virtues in the fire of the Holy Spirit. Like Fortitude, Hildegard was enkindled by the Holy Spirit and edified many with her teaching. Hildegard of Bingen's Homilies on the Gospels are here translated for the first time from Latin into English. Hildegard's sisters recorded and preserved her informal preaching in this collection of homilies on twenty-seven gospel pericopes. As teacher and superior to her sisters, Hildegard probably spoke to them in the chapter house, with the scriptural text either before her or recited from memory, according to Benedictine liturgical practice. The Homilies on the Gospels prove essential for comprehending the coherent theological Vision that Hildegard constructs throughout her works, including the themes of salvation history, the drama of the individual soul, the struggle of virtues against vices, and the life-giving and animating force of greenness (uiriditas). Moreover, the Homilies on the Gospels establish Hildegard as the only known female systematic exegete of the Middle Ages.
