"In this book Meir Bar-Asher shines light on the deeply ambivalent views toward Jews and Judaism in the Qur'an and in post-Qur'anic Islamic writing. On the one hand, these texts clearly recognize the Jews as a people chosen by God - a "people of the Book" deserving of respect and communal protection for their contribution. On the other hand, an undeniably darker view is also on offer and is found, for example, in passages that accuse Jews of falsifying their own Torah to suppress all pronouncements of the advent of Muhammad, the final Prophet whose message is the culmination of the good news brought by all the prophets from Moses to Jesus. Bar-Asher's view is that one must concede the existence of such polemical anti-Jewish passages while keeping in mind that they do not constitute the final word of the Qur'an or Islam on the Jews. Bar-Asher argues that passages concerning Jews and Judaism in the Qur'an need to be examined alongside the post-Qur'anic Islamic literature rather than read in isolation. His book thus concerns not only Islam's holy scripture but also Hadith, the authoritative oral tradition of sayings attributed to the Prophet Muhammad, along with other Islamic commentaries on Jews and Judaism. The book begins with a historical overview of the Jewish presence in the Arab peninsula before the time of Muhammad and covers what scholars have uncovered to date about the relationship between Muhammad, his followers, and the Jews of Medina in particular. Then the book turns to the Qur'an and the aforementioned post-Qur'anic traditional materials"--

'The Sunna is the first subsidiary source (masdar far¿i) after the Qur'an among the sources of Islamic law. We understand the Divine rulings by means of the Sunna and it becomes binding upon us to put its content into practice, So the real meaning of the Sunna as binding proof is exposition and proof-inference necessitating obligatory practice of their results because the latter is the Divine decision." ~Dr. ¿Abd al-Ghani ibn ¿Abd al-KhaliqThe book also contains the translation of Imam Ibn Hajar al-¿Asqalani's explanation of the Hadith on Islam, Iman and Ihsan also known as Gibril's hadith from Fathul-Bari.ABOUT THE AUTHORAuthor of Four Imams and Their Schools, The Musnad of Ahl al-Bayt, The Muhammadan Light and other works, Shaykh Gibril Haddad has translated from Arabic to English: Qadi al-Nabahani's The Prophet Muhammad's Knowledge of the Unseen, Imam al-Baydawi's The Lights of Revelation and the Secrets of Interpretation: Hizb One of the Commentary on the Quran and many other works.Born in Beirut in 1960, Dr. Haddad embraced Islam while a graduate student in French Literature at Columbia University in New York. Sayyidina ¿Umar during his caliphate gathered the multifarious groups praying tarawih into a single congregation. Ubay ibn Käb said: 'This was not done before!" Sayyidina ¿Umar said "I am fully aware of this, but it is excellent!" He also said: 'What a fine innovation this is."¿¿Nowhere in the field of Islamic jurisprudence is a blatant tampering with the truth felt more than in the redefinition of "Sunna" and "bid'a". The understanding of for these terms is arrogantly cast aside. The crystal-clear distinction of the pious Salaf such as Imam al-Shafi'i, "Bid'a is of two kinds; praiseworthy innovation and blameworthy innovation" is being abandoned, while later, controversial figures are invoked as "more representative of the Salaf".The intent of this book is to do away with these perilous misconceptions and to present over 160 proofs for the Sunni understanding of Sunna and bid'a as set forth in classical, moderate, mainstream Islam according to the Sunni Salaf and Khalaf, including the four Schools of Fiqh. Additionally, the book provides case studies on topics such as collective supplication, partitions for women in mosques, and proofs for visitation of graves by women. The Quran kor AHN Arabic al-Quran, literally meaning "the recitation" also romanized Quran or Koran is the central religious text of Islam, which Muslims believe to be a revelation from God. It is widely regarded as the finest work in classical Arabic literature. The Quran is divided into chapters, which are then divided into verses.Muslims believe that the Quran was verbally revealed by God to Muhammad through the angel Gabriel Jibril, gradually over a period of approximately 23 years, beginning on 22 December 609 CE, when Muhammad was 40, and concluding in 632, the year of his death. Muslims regard the Quran as the most important miracle of Muhammad, a proof of his prophethood, and the culmination of a series of divine messages that started with the messages revealed to Adam and ended with Muhammad. The word "Quran" occurs some 70 times in the text of the Quran, although different names and words are also said to be references to the Quran.According to the traditional narrative, several companions of Muhammad served as scribes and were responsible for writing down the revelations. Shortly after Muhammad's death, the Quran was compiled by his companions who wrote down and memorized parts of it. These codices had differences that motivated the Caliph Uthman to establish a standard version now known as Uthman's codex, which is generally considered the archetype of the Quran known today. There are, however, variant readings, with mostly minor differences in meaning. The Quran assumes familiarity with major narratives recounted in the Biblical scriptures. It summarizes some, dwells at length on others and, in some cases, presents alternative accounts and interpretations of events. The Quran describes itself as a book of guidance for mankind 2:185. It sometimes offers detailed accounts of specific historical events, and it often emphasizes the moral significance of an event over its narrative sequence. Hadith are additional oral and written traditions supplementing the Quran; from careful authentication they are believed to describe words and actions of Muhammad, and in some traditions also those closest to him. In most denominations of Islam, the Quran is used together with hadith to interpret sharia (Islamic) law; in a small number of denominations, only the Quran is used as a source. During prayers, the Quran is recited only in Arabic.Someone who has memorized the entire Quran is called a hafiz. Quranic verse (ayah) is sometimes recited with a special kind of elocution reserved for this purpose, called tajwid. During the month of Ramadan, Muslims typically complete the recitation of the whole Quran during tarawih prayers. In order to extrapolate the meaning of a particular Quranic verse, most Muslims rely on exegesis, or tafsir.
