The increasingly interconnected, fast-moving, unmanageable and unpredictable world brings with it an unprecedented variety of known and as yet unknown challenges and risks. Some of the global risks have a direct impact on critical infrastructures as well as those of energy supply in particular. A high level of functionality of critical infrastructures (CRITIS), which include the sectors of energy, information technology and telecommunications, transportation and traffic, health, water, food, finance and insurance, government and administration, as well as media and culture, is indispensable for a modern industrial society. In the context of the Corona crisis of 2020/2021, the worldwide inadequate preparation for pandemics became obvious, although the probability of epidemic outbreaks and their global spread has increased significantly in recent decades and was thus predictable to a certain extent. Moreover, it has been shown that in a globally interconnected world, complex crisis phenomena can mutually amplify and thus escalate within a short period of time. In particular, the deficits in preparedness for major risks that became apparent in the course of the Corona pandemic cannot be managed by nation states alone, especially since the probability of such events has risen continuously in recent decades and will continue to increase with growing globalization and urbanization and, in particular, as a result of climate change and its consequences. This publication addresses the challenges of energy resilience and climate protection, which will require immense attention in the future.

Mit seiner Tagung 2021 zum Thema ¿Echtzeitkommunikation¿ greift der GI/GMA/ITG-Fachausschuss Echtzeitsysteme ein immer wichtiger werdendes Thema in einer mehr und mehr vernetzten Welt auf. Die präsentierten Lösungen reichen dabei von Hardware über Systementwurf bis hin zu einzelnen Applikationen.Das Buch stellt die auf der Tagung Echtzeit präsentierten Ergebnisse der Forscher auf dem diesjährigen Themengebiet der Echtzeitkommunikation dar. Diese Tagung des Fachausschusses Echtzeitsysteme der Gesellschaft für Informatik ist einzigartig im deutschem Sprachraum und fand 2021 zum 42. Mal statt.

Cybersecurity has gained in awareness and media coverage in the last decade. Not a single week passes without a major security incident that affects a company, sector, or governmental agencies. This proceedings of the International Conference on Applied CyberSecurity 2021 (ACS21), held in Dubai on 13 and 14 November, contains thirteen original contributions. More than half of the contributions are about applications of machine learning to accomplish several cybersecurity tasks, such as malware, phishing email detection, and Botnet detection. This was consistent with the current research and market trends. We divided this book into two parts; the first is focused on machine learning applications to cybersecurity, whereas the second groups the other approaches.This book is suitable for cybersecurity researchers and practitioners as well as fresh graduates. It is also suitable for artificial intelligence researchers interested in exploring applications in cybersecurity.

This volume constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Recent Trends in Image Processing and Pattern Recognition, RTIP2R 2021, held in Msida, Malta, in December 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the conference was held online. The 19 full papers and 14 short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 84 submissions. The papers are organized in the following topical sections: healthcare: medical imaging and informatics; computer vision and pattern recognition; document analysis and recognition; signal processing and machine learning; satellite imaging and remote sensing. 

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Internet and Distributed Computing Systems, IDCS 2016, held in Wuhan, China, in September 2016.The 30 full papers and 18 short papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 78 submissions. They were organized in topical sections named: body sensor networks and wearable devices; cloud computing and networking; distributed computing and big data; distributed scheduling and optimization; internet of things and its application; smart networked transportation and logistics; and big data and social networks.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the workshops held at the 16th Asia-Pacific Web Conference, APWeb 2014, in Changsha, China, in September 2014. The 34 full papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 59 submissions. This volume presents the papers that have been accepted for the following workshops: First International Workshop on Social Network Analysis, SNA 2014; First International Workshop on Network and Information Security, NIS 2014; First International Workshop on Internet of Things Search, IoTS 2014. The papers cover various issues in social network analysis, security and information retrieval against the heterogeneous big data.

Financial identity theft is well understood with clear underlying motives. Medical identity theft is new and presents a growing problem. The solutions to both problems however, are less clear. The Economics of Financial and Medical Identity Theft discusses how the digital networked environment is critically different from the world of paper, eyeballs and pens. Many of the effective identity protections are embedded behind the eyeballs, where the presumably passive observer is actually a fairly keen student of human behavior. The emergence of medical identity theft and the implications of medical data privacy are described in the second section of this book. The Economics of Financial and Medical Identity Theft also presents an overview of the current technology for identity management. The book closes with a series of vignettes in the last chapter, looking at the risks we may see in the future and how these risks can be mitigated or avoided.
