When Rob Santos left for work that fateful Tuesday, it was an ordinary Massachusetts winter morning. The weather in Boston was typical for January - flat gray skies, moody squalls of snow, and a biting wind blowing in off the harbor. What Rob didn't know was that every facet of his life was about to change forever. His life of success and privilege, the C-suite perks, extravagant house, gorgeous wife, and daughters attending a prestigious private school ... all of it was about to be gone for good. With seemingly no one left in Rob's corner, he turns to an unlikely source for help. An old friend quietly recommends a consultant who works in the shadows of society, and offers Rob a shot at a fresh start. With nowhere left to turn, Rob attempts to escape the folly of his broken life with a daring, dubious plan seemingly too surreal to ever work. If all goes well, his past will be behind him forever. If it doesn't, that past could return with a vengeance.
Have you ever wondered where dead people go on vacation?Or precisely what is behind the door that suddenly appeared on the trunk of a three-hundred-year-old sycamore tree? And how about the mysterious package from Fredricks of Hollywood that showed up on my doorstep? what's up with that? Then there are the challenges that arise when living next door to a witch. And whatever happened to the 1992 Mexican men's Olympic hockey team? These questions and many more are answered within the covers of this book.Join me on my journey of journalistic musings that started nearly forty years ago and keeps on keepin' on.This is a book of short stories, many of which can be read while sipping a glass of wine. A couple yarns are longer and come under the category of long short stories. They'll require two or perhaps three glasses. In all cases, I've had fun writing them.If they make you smile or shed a tear, I've done my job well. Cheers!
When three sixty-something guys become involved with curious mysteries, they prove their skills lie elsewhere. Toss in an English bulldog with an odoriferous gas issue, and a woman's book club that chimes in with their unwelcomed opinions, and the result is a merry journey down the road, paved with good intentions.
When Thomas MacDonald, a somewhat dull thirty-something bookstore clerk, finds three suitcases near a dumpster, he has no idea of the adventures ahead of him. He swiftly discovers that his new-found baggage is a time-travel portal, one that seems to have a purpose to its destinations into the past. But what is it? And how does his new-found love fit in? Should he tell her about his travels? Will she think he has lost his mind? Or maybe, just maybe, they might figure out how to use those suitcases to their advantage.During the COVID-19 pandemic, three writers began searching for a way to beat the "stay at home" blahs. They began work on a series of short stories, wherein each would write the beginning of a story, pass it on to the second, who passed it on to the third. At the end of the week, they met on Zoom and shared their work. One of those stories just kept growing and became the novella, Baggage. Enjoy!
