A group of young campers sat around in a large tent. "We have a lot of questions," they said, "and many of them are about sex and marriage; not everyone is prepared to talk about these subjects; will you help us?" Their camp leader was young enough to remember his own teenage years and he wasn't afraid to face the issues. "Sure I will," he said, "provided you're willing to accept the answers the Bible gives." So they got started. Questions flowed thick and fast. "How can you be sure of God's guidance when you're looking for a husband or a wife?" "If you take a girl out, is it right to kiss?" "What about petting? Is it all OK for a Christian?""I have a terrible job controlling my thoughts - can you help me?" "Does the Bible say anything about abortion?" Darkness fell and they were still going. Someone went for a lamp. There was so much to talk about. Most young people feel the same, and the questions are urgent, demanding an answer. For this reason it was decided that something should be written, dealing frankly with the problems which face young people (though older people are not exempt) in today's world. They are good questions and it's right that they should be asked. It's equally right that they should be answered, and thankfully the Bible has the answers.
This book from Bible teacher Alan Toms contains 3 separate books. The first is 'Gems From Jeremiah' - the book of the Old Testament Prophet Jeremiah is perhaps one of the least read Bible books. This short book provides a first point of entry to the book by looking at some of the key content and drawing out practical encouragement and teaching for Christians today. The second is '12 Pictures of Christ in Genesis' - 12 short meditations on how we can see the Lord Jesus Christ in the stories and characters of the first book of the Bible. The third is 'The Tabernacle in One Hour' - a concise guide to the main features of the Tabernacle in Exodus, including how they picture Christ and also the collective service and worship of God's people today.
Alan Toms was a missionary who devoted many years of his life to missionary work in Burma (now Myanmar) and who was also known for his devotional writing, much of which centred around the person of the Lord Jesus Christ and the encouragement of his disciples.Volume 1 contains a brief background to his life and work and 65 of his short devotional thoughts. Volume 2 contains a further 73 thoughts. Rather like "Chicken Soup For The Soul", each volume is ideal to be read in one sitting or as part of daily Bible reading and devotional times.
