The purpose of this paper is to show how and what are the causes and effects of the process of transculturation1 and urbanization of a Warao indigenous group in permanent interrelation with a Creole urban center2 and it is based on my doctoral thesis. It was carried out between 1997 and 2001 and is, in fact, an ethnography of the Warao indigenous community residing in the urban center of La Horqueta, Virgen del Valle Parish, Tucupita Municipality, Delta Amacuro State, Venezuela.
This work aims to share a compilation of personal reflections, made from the point of view of an emigrant, son and father of emigrants, as a mirror for others who have gone through the same situations. It is also addressed to those who, without ever having been emigrants, nor having them in their family, can see this phenomenon, albeit in an indirect and fragmented way, through the eyes of those who, due to the vicissitudes of life, have had to uproot ourselves from our places of origin to settle permanently in others.
