Disease has become rife, and the missions have long gone.The advertisement is placed by Jeannette Reynolds, the Mayor's niece. Expecting the danger and warlike nature of the Arizona Apache, Abel is again let down by their peaceful way of living - but the work is challenging and it means he gets to spend time with Jeanette. At first, he finds her too bold, too brash and very unfeminine. But, the more they work together, he sees her in a new light, and begins to fall for her. However, her parents want her to marry the son of another newspaper owning family, to expand their empire.
