Bogen er også forsynet med en introduktion til hans liv og virke som digter samt analyser og præsentation af nogle af de mest karakteristiske af hans digte.Ambrosius Stub (1705-1758) var en dansk klassicistisk digter. Den forkortede udgave af Ambrosius Stubs digt "Den kiedsom vinter gik sin gang" er med i Højskolesangbogen, men de fleste af hans digte blev først offentliggjort efter hans død.
Ambrosius Stub, maj 1705-15.7.1758, dansk forfatter med en sikker sans for sin tids forskellige lyriske genrer, visen, som kaldtes aria, drikkevisen, den gudelige sang, det moralske læredigt — men også med en iagttagelsesevne, der, især gennem den forkortede udgave af hans berømteste digt, "Den kiedsom Vinter gik sin Gang" (først udgivet 1771), har skaffet ham ry som en fin naturdigter. Ambrosius Stubs hovedgenre var det korte lejlighedsdigt.Den fattige husmandssøn kom fra Fyn til Københavns Universitet, hvor han blev hængende i ti år, hvorefter han uden eksamen måtte hutle sig igennem med småjobs og underholdning på de fynske herregårde, der ikke gav ham indtægter nok til at forsørge sin kone og deres efterhånden fem børn.Tre af dem døde, konen også kun 31 år gammel, og enkemanden endte sine dage, fattig som han begyndte, som skoleholder i Ribe.Af Ambrosius Stubs digte kendes 119, der på nær enkelte først blev trykt efter, at han var død, og hans tyngede og letsindige liv blevet en myte. Med digte som "Du deylig Rosen-Knop!" og "Hvad vindes ved Verdens vidtløftige Hav?" (begge først udgivet 1771) kunne han gøre selv tung moraliseren let.(Store Danske Encyklopædi)
