Mia's Bayeux Tapestry Musings - Material, Colours & Equipment is the first book in a 7-part series.I will tell you exactly what I use to create my full-scale Bayeux Tapestry replica, which I started in July 2016. Since then, I have completed 37 metres and it's all downhill from now, as I'm past the halfway mark. In a lighthearted and humorous way, I will explain my mission to source the linen fabric, the wool yarn I use for the project and how I have chosen the 7 colours for the embroidery. I will talk about measuring gadgets, pencils, scissors and The One and Only Needle, but also about what led to me starting this embroidery in the first place.I'm not a technically trained expert, but a self taught enthusiast with bucketloads of passion for my project, as long as it has to do with needlework and not history. Along the way, I have gained expertise in many areas of the Bayeux Tapestry style art and if I can share enough to inspire someone to pick up a creative project, my hard work has been worth it. This series is part of that plan.Within these pages, you will encounter me as a person and textile artist, all rolled into one. You are going to be treated to my views of the project and of the original Bayeux Tapestry, as they go hand in hand and have grown to become a part of me. I'm sharing photos of my work, as well as of the material and equipment I use.We will be travelling back in time, to parts of my life that in one way or another are linked to my current life as a textile artist. Get your Time Travel Pass ready and settle in for a joyful ride.
Mia's Bayeux Tapestry Musings - Swinging the Needle is part 2 in a series about the Bayeux Tapestry replica project I'm working on. In this book, we are diving into the history of my life as a textile artist and I'm revealing a couple of very dark secrets. Of course, we will be casting an eye on the three main stitches on The Bayeux Tapestry, but there is so much more a needle has to do in the project like this. I'm going to guide you through The Rules that govern my work and explain the strategies I use to move forward, keeping the process interesting and enjoyable. This book is handy guide for anyone who would like to make a large piece of embroidery and for those who want to understand what hides in the depth of replica work. If you choose to read this book, you agree to step into my world and learn some of the terminologi I use. Consider yourself warned.
