Amelia Sophia Le Feuvre (1861-1929) was born in Blackheath, London, England. Her father worked as a Surveyor and her grandfather, James Mainguy, was a reverend in Guernsey. She wrote many books and stories for magazines like Sunday at Home and Quiver. Her books were filled with Biblical principles. Her most popular works include: Me and Nobbles, The Carved Cupboard, Dwell Deep; or, Hilda Thorn''s Life Story, Bulbs and Blossoms and Odd.
Little Milly is left an orphan after the death of her mother and she is sent to live with her bachelor uncle, Sir Edward Wentworth. The latter has no use for children, especially of the female variety, but as the days go by he is warmed by his niece’s bright and endearing personality.
