For Andy Burrows, Christmas Day 2009 marked the beginning of a battle with cancer which has continued into 2016. Along the way the battle has prompted some deep thinking about the way that the Christian faith speaks to issues of hardship, suffering and illness. In this book Andy tells of his emotional and physical roller coaster ride, involving two relapses, three lots of chemotherapy, antibody treatment and a stem cell transplant, interspersed with Christian reflections. He covers such questions as: How does the Christian faith affect the way that we view hardship and suffering? Isn't the Christian hope too 'pie in the sky' to be of any comfort? Can cancer be a good thing? Shouldn't suffering lead us to hate God if he exists? Is God really in control of everything? As he reflects on the issues thrown up by his cancer, Andy comes to the conclusion that hardships are 'where the rubber hits the road', as his studies continually take him back to the truth, wisdom and comfort of the Bible's teaching on God's sovereignty and the eternal future hope that awaits God's children through Christ's work.
On Christmas Day 2009, Andy Burrows was rushed into hospital seriously ill. After several weeks of hospital care he was told the life changing diagnosis - a form of cancer known as non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Andy's cancer battle is now in its seventh year, and has included two relapses, three different types of chemotherapy and an autologous stem cell transplant. This book is the 'omnibus' edition of Andy's cancer journal, as published on his website, www.andyburrows.me.
This book gives the account of one patient's stem cell transplant. It is aimed at helping those who preparing for their own transplant, giving the experience of someone who has been through it before - from stem cell harvesting all the way through to full recovery - complete with full colour photos to illustrate the journey.
