Terra baixa is a Catalan-language play written by Àngel Guimerà in 1896. The drama is considered his most popular work, having become an international sensation after its premiere.In addition to being a popular stage play, Terra baixa was made into six films, including a silent film in the United States. Furthermore, it served as the source material for two operas: Eugen d'Albert's German opera Tiefland and Fernand Le Borne's La Catalane. Àngel Guimerà was even nominated a record 21 times for the Nobel Prize in Literature, though he never won, due to controversy about the political significance of the gesture

Mar i cel (1888) és la tragèdia en vers més destacada de l'obra de Guimerà. Representa el moment culminant de la tràgedia en vers de temàtica històrica de Guimerà, que a partir d'aquest moment es decanta cap a un teatre de caràcter realista i naturalista. L'obra narra l'amor impossible d'una cristiana captiva, Blanca, i el pirata morisc que l'ha capturat, Saïd. La societat els ha col·locat en mons oposats i irreconciliables, però ells s'hi rebel·len i opten per seguir la seva passió, costi el que costi.Àngel Guimerà i Jorge va nèixer a Santa Cruz de Tenerife el 6 de maig de 1845. Va ser un poeta, dramaturg en llengua catalana i polític català. La seva extensa obra es caracteritza per unir realisme amb romanticisme. Va ser un dels grans experts en el Renaixement de les lletres catalanes a finals del segle XIX.

Terra baixa és un drama en prosa d’Àngel Guimerà que planteja magistralment l’oposició entre el pla corromput (la terra baixa) i la muntanya incontaminada (la terra alta). El protagonista, en Manelic, un home senzill i primitiu, és cridat per casar-se amb la Marta, una noia de la terra baixa que fins aleshores havia estat obligada a mantenir relacions íntimes amb el seu amo, en Sebastià, el qual pretén continuar-les més enllà del que per a ell és un matrimoni de conveniència. La Marta, envilida per la relació forçada amb en Sebastià, troba en l’amor d’en Manelic la força per esdevenir lliure i trencar la dependència que la subjectava a en Sebastià. Aquest enfrontament de la dona amb l’autoritat de l’amo, en un món que encara es regeix per les relacions de poder, desencadena un drama que acaba amb la mort d’en Sebastià a mans d’en Manelic.Este audiolibro está narrado en castellano.Àngel Guimerà i Jorge va nèixer a Santa Cruz de Tenerife el 6 de maig de 1845.
