Violet Gentile, a 27-year-old girl, leaves her life in New York to accompany her boyfriend, Yuki Nakamura, when he learns terrible news that affects his family. Overnight, she begins a new journey in Hakone, a small town west of Tokyo, where she is forced to adopt customs very different from her own. However, what will make her reconsider whether she has made a good decision will not be the misunderstandings due to the language, but the isolation that she will begin to feel after knowing the bitter face of the most traditional Japan, embodied, mainly, in Haru, the older brother of Yuki.
