When Pushcart Publisher Bill Henderson entered his 80's, he was blessed with identical twin grandsons. As they grew older, he began thinking about what he wanted to say to them after he was gone, and they came of age. Influenced by the letters of Flannery O'Connor, Thomas Merton and others, he started writing to the boys telling them about his life and mining it for whatever wisdom he had gleaned along the way.He intended the letters for private circulation. But at the urging of friends, he has collected them for a wider readership.

Like most Americans, these are times when you worry about the future. Some of the worries are related to the future of the economy. Since 2008 the economy has not prospered. Economic policies have not reversed the negative economic conditions. Not many positive situations have been a feature of the Obama administration's economic policies. So with conditions as they are, the pattern of policies of this administration is important. In the remaining days of this administration, what economic conditions might be expected to get better or worse? In the bigger picture is it unlikely that the free enterprise, capitalistic system can be revitalized by more intervention in economic decision making by the government. Is it likely that modifications to the market system will surface or the market system will be replaced by alternatives such as central government economic planning? If you do not want change -- that means more of the past Obama policies - or no respite from the decline in the role of markets or even other, more extreme changes. On the other hand, some few authorities predict a needed strengthening of the market system. But other prognosticators assume that a larger more complete role of the federal government will be necessary.
What you will find in these pages is an evaluation of the character and politics of policy players who evaluate government power as beneficial to the average American, and business. The leftist leaning government policies have created a revival of the old failed leftist politics as remedies for economic ills.
In a world of internet friendships, far-flung families, and a growing sense of alienation in American life, Bill Henderson tells the story of how he found community and joyful camaraderie through the singing of old-fashioned hymns in a small wood framed country church.
In last year's Pushcart Prize, editor Bill Henderson noted that the Pushcart Prize, "the small good thing, has evolved into an international prize drawing nominations from small presses around the globe." As always, the selections are made by a distinguished panel of Guest Editors and hundreds of Contributing Editors. The list of authors selected and encouraged over the decades, is immense. (An index to previous volumes is included in each edition.)The Pushcart Prize won the NBCC Sandroff Lifetime Achievement award, The Poets & Writers/ Barnes and Noble Writers for Writers citation and was named by Publishers Weekly as one of the seminal publications in American publishing history.
As Booklist's Donna Seaman commented on edition #43, "a harvesting of the year's finest stories, poems and essays...a deeply provocative and artistically resplendent anthology." This current edition is further proof that important and exciting writing is found in small presses scattered around the country and the world. As the variety of selections in Pushcart Prize XLIV indicates, it is an eclectic and constantly changing community. Over 70 authors are included from more than 50 presses. The Pushcart series is winner of The Sandrof Lifetime Achievement Award from The National Book Critics Circle, and the Poets & Writers/Barnes & Nobel Writers For Writers citation, plus many other awards. Here are 600 pages of literary brilliance from both new and established authors, featuring traditional and experimental work.
This book is for those who are looking for more in the Lord than a routine. Those who know He has more for them than what they have already experienced. Contained in this book are some true, instances that I have experienced so far in my 53 years here. Many of them are humorous. Some are very serious. Some will make you cry. Some have a bit of teaching to go along with them. My prayer is that as you read each experience, you will see yourself doing the same thing that the Lord has guided me through. I claim many changed lives and souls in the name of Jesus. My hope is that theses stories have encouraged many to swim out into deeper water. As I've come to a end of this chapter of my life, many other experiences are occurring even as I write. There is no end to His adventure and no containing His Glory. All we can do is grab as much as we can, as we go and do in Jesus name. May God allow you to live a life of the destiny He has for you. A life that will never be disappointing, because life comes from our Father and He Gives it more abundantly as we give to Him. I am so thankful the Lord saved me and took some things away. I am more thankful of what He give me back. Many people will not summit to the Lord because they do not want o give up something. It's not what you're going to have to give up....it's what you are going to receive. You can be happy now! Not just in heaven! But right now! May God Richly Bless You As These Pages Cause something To Come Alive In You.
Bill Henderson had an epiphany one day after buying a plot of land high atop a hill in Maine overlooking the sea: why not build a tower "for no reason"? For this lapsed Presbyterian, it all made sense. With his spiritual life in neutral, his marriage struggling, his daughter growing up, a tower was no less appropriate than, say, hiring a shrink or buying a fast car. Ignoring the fact that he knew little about construction, and armed only with a hammer, a handsaw, a tri-square, a tape measure, and a rope, he set about erecting a modest tower upon his not-so-modest hill. Tower is Henderson's down-to-earth study of a sky-high subject that celebrates the dreamer in all of us.

The Family Bible is Henderson's first collection of poetry and a rare statement of this pilgrim's journey. His 67 poems are both personal and universal. They are funny, bitter, eloquent, tortured, touching, wise, blasphemous, and reverent. From Genesis to Revelation, this is the Bible that we all recognize and debate and love.
For the 2003 edition, The Pushcart Prize presents scores of brilliant short stories, poems, and essays selected from hundreds of presses and literary journals with the help of over 200 distinguished contributing editors. This is a stunning presentation of new and celebrated authors, picked from almost 8,000 nominations.
"All My Dogs dogs is exactly as the title describes, a story in chronological order, beginning in childhood, of all the dogs Henderson has loved. Some were with him for a brief period, some were part of every moment in his life and the lives of his wife and daughter. But , as silly and bold and sometimes incorrigible as all of these dogs were, each of them loved Henderson and he returned that affection wholeheartedly. He is dog person and cannot imagine a life without canine companionship. So as he writes of navigating the waters as writer and publisher, pursuing a family life, moving from one home to another, engaging in a quixotic quest to build a tower in Maine and pondering how to live the best life possible, there is always a dog at his feet or by his side.Dogs have made his life richer by their company and, just as the best writing of Herriot and Durrell,All my Dogs is a love letter in return." Selected from hundreds of Pushcart Prize-winners, twenty-five writers-including Charles Baxter, Karen Russell, Charles Johnson and Donald Hall-tell their contemporary love tales both fiction and non-fiction, in often unsparing ways. In some there is a joyous celebration of love; in others the game is perplexing but always fascinating.
