Adapted from his 2023 autobiography, ARE YOU KIDDING? A Life, author, actor, director and producer Bob May has distilled a new telling of his gay life and survival in the minimalist style of monologist Spalding Gray. May describes his childhood in Republican Orange County, his school days and his awakening to his secret self, confused teen years of isolation in the 1960s, first loves, coming out amidst the foment and social unrest of the 1970s; the Vietnam draft lottery; draft resistance; jail and his resulting PTSD. Act Two follows his mature work life and twin careers in business and the arts, later loves, his HIV diagnosis, depression and addictions, recovery, and finally a long eventful life into a happy retirement and old age. In other words: survival. It is a moving, dramatic, picaresque true story of isolation and fear, acceptance, struggle, romance, achievement and hope, told with May's characteristic humor and optimism.
From "ARE YOU KIDDING?":"When telling the story of my teens to young gay men...the most common response I received was 'Are you kidding? 'Your parents locked you out of their house because they found out you were gay? Are you kidding? You lost your job because you were gay? Are you kidding? You learned your HIV status from a form letter? Are you kidding? No, I'm not kidding. All that and more happened. Suddenly in answer to these reactions of incredulity, I realized I had a story to tell; something very old that was suddenly new again. "ARE YOU KIDDING? is one gay man's humorous and mind-boggling remembrance of 70 years from Eisenhower to COVID-19, coming of age and coming to terms with his sexual identity, living in Republican Orange County, facing the Vietnam draft, pursuing a show business career in the face of prejudice and homophobia, celebrating the sexual revolution, surviving the AIDS pandemic; substance abuse and depression, and witnessing the decline of the middle class. It is a hopeful look back across six decades from the hard-earned perspective of age and wisdom.

Three Christmas Plays Many thoughts come to mind when the word Christmas is mentioned. A DIFFERENT KIND OF NUTCRACKER - Children's show / 8m, 9f, extras / Simple sets It's Christmas Eve, Godfather Hoffmann has some special gifts for Fritz and Marie, including a Nutcracker. As Marie tucks in the handsome prince for the night, the room fills with mice, led by the Mouse King, who seems to be at war with the Nutcracker. Is it all a dream or is the story real as Godfather Hoffmann explains to Marie how the Nutcracker became the way he is. The ballet only tells half the story of Godfather Hoffmann's wonderful toys and the strange adventures of Marie on Christmas Eve, when the toys come to life and she finds herself in another world, where she must save her Nutcracker Prince from a terrible curse.
