The primary purpose of this book is to alert the reader to over 3,000 publications on the rise and fall of the classic street and interurban railroad. It has made a special effort to go back and present many early publications that cover the introduction of this form of transportation as a central actor in the growth of every North American city. A detailed index is provided and this shows the corporate name of hundreds of railroads, names of cities, and the names of certain major players in the expansion of street railroads. Entries are given for cars and equipment, motors and controllers, car builders, strikes, statistics, and so on. It includes most of the books issued by major publishers, as well as dissertations and federal government documents.
