Spencer Underwood has little realistic hope of escaping his paraplegic, bullied, and friendless high school existence. Then he and three classmates are unrealistically transported to Nibiru, a legendary fantasy world ruled by mythological gods and inhabited by strange races and nightmarish monsters. Spence can walk again, which is good considering he's going to have to use his online fantasy role-playing game experience to lead the dysfunctional party on the gods' quest and summon the courage to finally stand up to Trey, his worst bully from school. Success not only means survival but finally earning respect and acceptance, especially from Morgan, his attractive but snarky Goth classmate. But Spence discovers Nibiru is more a world of science fiction than fantasy, and they are just unwitting pawns in a deadly scheme of the gods. If returning to Earth isn't an option, the party might have to do the unthinkable and attempt to unravel the true mystery of the fantasy world, even if it means challenging the gods themselves.
By fourteen, Hawk remembers little of being captured from a merchant ship six years prior, his father being slain, or his brother, James, being left to die on the burning ship. Instead, he has embraced pirate life and rapidly ascended through the hierarchy. He loves life at sea and desires only to become the last and greatest pirate captain. Then Anna, a beautiful young prostitute in New Orleans, captures his heart. For the first time, Hawk wonders if there is more to life than his pirate existence. As their love continues to build over the next few years, Hawk's heart is torn between his quest to rule the sea and his desire to escape with Anna. His world is further shaken when he learns that James is alive and helping to lead the rapidly expanding US Navy in avenging his family and eradicating piracy for good.In order to follow his heart, Hawk will have to make an impossible choice and be willing to sacrifice everything-including his own life and the lives of the ones he loves the most.
