Compiled by the late Chaim Beider and edited by Boris Sandler (editor of the Yiddish Forward) and Gennady Estraikh (of NYU), this biographical dictionary of Soviet Yiddish writers includes over 400 entries, many photographs of writers, an English introduction and glossary of Soviet Yiddish terminology. Many biographical details in the book are being published in complete form for the first time, as previous research on Soviet writers was limited due to the Iron Curtain. A fine companion volume to the Congress' 8-volume Biographical Dictionary of Modern Yiddish Literature, this book will make a fine asset for any research or Jewish library.
