The Fugitive Slave Law of the United States: Shown to be Unconstitutional, Impolitic, Inhuman, and Diabolical is a book written by Charles Stearns in 1851. The book is a critique of the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, which was a law that required citizens to assist in the capture and return of escaped slaves to their owners. Stearns argues that the law is unconstitutional because it violates the rights of free citizens, and that it is impolitic because it is likely to cause social unrest and conflict.
