Dr. Christoph Bernoulli, Professor für industrielle Wissenschaften in Basel, war ein Vordenker seiner Zeit. Als begeisterter Anhänger der Ideen der französischen Revolution übertrug er seinen unbedingten Fortschrittsglauben auf die Technik, deren Entwicklung in England durch die Erfindung der Dampfmaschine radikal beschleunigt wurde. Sein hier wieder aufgelegtes deutschsprachiges Grundlagenwerk zur Dampfmaschinenkunde richtete sich in erster Linie an Techniker, denen Bernoulli vor allem die Praxis der Dampfmaschinenkunde nahe bringt. Dies macht das Werk aus einer Zeit, deren Bücher eher theoretisch als praktisch geprägt waren, zu einer Ausnahmeerscheinung. Wer ¿ etwa auf Traditionsschiffen ¿ mit Dampfmaschinen zu tun hat, findet hier eine gut geschriebene und heute noch lehrreiche Darstellung.

Dieses Grundwerk von Dr. Christoph Bernoulli, einem renommierten Professor für industrielle Wissenschaften aus Basel, spiegelt seinen unbedingten Fortschrittsglauben und seine Begeisterung für die damals avantgardistische Technik der Dampfmaschine wider. Die industrielle Revolution hatte gerade begonnen und war doch ohne die neue Mechanik undenkbar. Diese Neuauflage des ursprünglichen Werkes beinhaltet die - soweit bekannt - europaweit nur noch einmal vorhandenen 12 Steindrucke von Bernoulli aus 1833, die von historisch einmaligem Wert sind.
