This book offers some results of research carried out over the last couple of decades on the general topic of the Enlightenment in Portugal. The focus has always been to understand the cultural processes involved in education and book circulation, both from the standpoint of official policy and the cultural appropriations made by the many individuals involved, using the written word as a window to cultural and educational practices in the past of the Portuguese empire.
