Den amerikanske Clifford D. This science fiction novel is about the convergence of three things: science, power, and freedom. I enjoyed reading the book, though I like my heroes to be a little less ruthless. The concept of matter transmission was interestingly developed in a way that I do not often see. (Rhys Pierce) About the author:Clifford Donald Simak (August 3, 1904 - April 25, 1988) was an American science fiction writer. He won three Hugo Awards and one Nebula Award. In this classic novel by the Science Fiction Grand Master, a writer searching for explanations uncovers the existence of mutants and multiple Earths: “First-rate Simak” (The New York Times). Author Jay Vickers would like nothing more than to be left alone so he can finish his next book. But “there’s something strange going on,” as his peculiar neighbor, Horton Flanders, says. For instance, the market is filling with new inventions that supposedly last forever—cars, razors, cigarette lighters, and more. Individuals and whole families are disappearing. Soon, even Mr. Flanders vanishes—but not before leaving Vickers a note. Following Flanders’s advice, Vickers travels to his childhood home, where he makes a fantastic discovery. It is a mere child’s toy, a brightly colored whistling top. But for Jay Vickers, it leads to other worlds and answers all his questions. What happened to all the vanished people? Who is behind these helpful inventions? And what sort of being would want to stop them. . . ? “Unforgettable.” —New York Herald Tribune “Solid entertainment, with plenty of startling plot twists.” —The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction “Some of the most ingenious plot twists in recent science-fiction.” —Galaxy

¿SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE WORLD!The pendulum clock struck slowly, its every other chime as usual setting up a sympathetic vibration in the pewter vase that stood upon the mantel. Mr. Chambers got to his feet, strode to the door, opened it and looked out. Moonlight tessellated the street in black and silver, etching the chimneys and trees against a silvered sky. But the house directly across the street was not the same. It was strangely lopsided, its dimensions out of proportion, like a house that suddenly had gone mad. He stared at it in amazement, trying to determine what was wrong with it. He recalled how it had always stood, foursquare, a solid piece of mid-Victorian architecture. Then, before his eyes, the house righted itself again. With a sigh of relief, Mr. Chambers turned back into the hall. But before he closed the door, he looked again. The house was lopsided -- worse than before!

Nine tales of imagination and wonder from one of the formative voices of science fiction and fantasy, the author of Way Station and City.   Named a Grand Master by the Science Fiction Writers of America, Clifford D. Tales of science fiction and adventure from the Hugo Awardwinning author of Way Station and City. The long and prolific career of Clifford D. Simak cemented him as one of the formative voices of the science fiction and fantasy genre. The third writer to be named a Grand Master by the Science Fiction Writers of America, his literary legacy stands alongside those of Robert A. Heinlein and Ray Bradbury.
