My collection of poems are partially anecdotal, partly fun and perhaps just a shade visionary. They center largely around the sea as I was born on an island and eked out a living mainly as a diver / guide most of my life. The poems run the gamut from the stars through birds, fish, sharks, coyotes to molluscs, even sailboats, eccentrics, insights into human psyche, crude social commentary, direct knowledge and visions of Atlantean times, and an attempt to preserve some of my father's stories and jokes that would die with me otherwise. The insatiable greed of the human race is destroying the world I grew up in and this is my attempt to let them know what was, compared to what they are going to have if they continue to excercise no restraint. Take a warning! I did not write "The Saprophyte". This is God's world, He will not allow you to destroy it.
In 1964, white in LA is the color of convenience. But for Cody, nothing in life is convenient. He falls in love with Malia who is from the nearly extinct Native American Chumash tribe. He is befriended by Mr. Ozzard-a Persian refuge with grandiose, scary tales of faith and betrayal. To add to his angst, and alienation, his father, an Okie during the depression, treats Cody harshly; no different than how his own father did. Watts riots erupt. Malia is kidnapped by a demonic warrior called Rami from the ancient Chokki clan whose brothers were killed by Mr. Ozzard's father. He has mistaken her for Mr. Ozzard's daughter, Eishea. As a boy, Cody must rescue her. As the man he cannot become, he relies on the strength his father has beaten into him. With the help of Malia's uncle and Mr. Ozzard and whatever God is conveniently available, armed with a mythical dagger as deadly as a sliver of ice he has stolen from Rami, Cody forges onward as if a cavalry soldier without a horse. First, he must find Malia before he can save Eishea who will most likely be tortured by Rami.
Rewritten in their entirety, these blasphemous new and old testaments are an attempt at a reversal of morals--a dialectical approach to the truth in which the opposite is mirrored against the established with the goal of producing a new transcendent truth uniting the two contradictory views. ". . . a means of challenging zealots to read their own holy books and possibly force them to consider the harder questions and contradictions contained therein, the author decided to rewrite the Bible. Years of indefatigable work later, The Blasphemous Bible was created. All the many stories, verses, and 'facts' contained in the Bible are here rewritten with no apology for the obvious wickedness, cruelties, atrocities, and overall unbelievable fallacies it may be said to chronicle."
