Dating back to 1965, Freightliner is still going strong today; a great success for rail freight. It started life moving shipping containers from ports to inland terminals, where specialised cranes were used to tranship from rail to road. These trains serve no fewer than nineteen intermodal terminals across the UK. With the privatisation of British Rail in 1996, Freightliner's assets were transferred to a new company called Freightliner 1995 Ltd, in readiness for sale. Then in 1999 Freightliner set up the Heavyhaul side of the business as a direct competitor to the bulk rail freight company English Welsh & Scottish Railway (EWS). Today there are major maintenance depots at Crewe Basford Hall, and Leeds Midland Road, while the main marshalling yard and stabling point is at Crewe Cheshire. With a stunning collection of full-colour photography taken around the country, Dave Smith offers up a fantastic pictorial tribute to this icon of Britain's railways.
With eloquence, grace, and a searching intelligence, Dave Smith illuminates both poems and poets. Believing that "great poetry cannot be divorced from an intimate, organic link to place", he builds a compelling case for the importance of southern poets.
The 30 poems in this collection show Dave Smith turning from the work of an accomplished past to new formal practices that highlight a poetry autumnal in its recognition of life's limits.
The process of S.A.F.E. ways is a logical, easy to follow road map that any college bound family can implement with effective results. If we were riding a bicycle, the front wheel would be “Selection” and “Acceptance”, giving a strong and meaningful direction/reason for attending college for the student. The back wheel is “Funding” and “Execution” the important components for the parents in this process. Both students and parents have an active role in S.A.F.E. which provides the family with predictable and affordable results for each student.
