Take an intimate look at one slice of the life of the world's most beloved cartoonist, Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz. Through this collection of personal reminiscences and correspondences from Schulz's fellow members in the Church of God in his days living in St. Paul, Minnesota, you can get a full picture of the man behind the art... the very human, very thoughtful, very spiritual soul who gave the world so much pleasure through his delightful and insightful cartoons. Illustrated with dozens of cartoons that Schulz did for Church Of God publications and drawings created just for friends, this book is full of insight for anyone interested in the career and creativity of this great man.
This book contains 217 pen-and-ink drawings of country music personalities from Roy Acuff to Carrie Underwood. Each 300 word biography is accompanied by an original pen-and-ink drawing done in pointillism style by author/illustrator David Liverett. Author's quote: During the past two years, I have been researching and drawing country singers. My newest book, 'Those Grand Ole Country Music Stars' was delivered to me three days before Christmas 2008. The book features 217 personalities alphabetically including birthdates, birth places, and death dates. Each pen-and-ink drawing is done in dots (pointillism) and takes at least twelve hours to complete. A 300 word biography covers the artists early influences, their journeys to receive a record contract, first recording hits, and honors. An attempt was made to reflect positive stories including their early beginnings of singing in church. In many cases this was a typical start to the stories. The book includes the groundbreaking singers such as the Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers, Roy Acuff, Sons of the Pioneers, and also covers the newer singers, Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood, and Kenny Chesney. In an appendix, the book also includes the dates each singer was invited to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry as well as when and if they were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. 'David Liverett is a master when it comes to capturing the likeness and legend of each country music star featured in this collection. More than a handy reference guide, Liverett's latest book serves as a well-deserved tribute to over 200 of America's most enduring recording artists.' --Holly Miller, Senior Editor, The Saturday Evening Post 'Insight and interesting stories that you didn't know about your favorite country stars. It's the one book you need in your personal library.' --Marty Raybon of the group Shenandoah
A collection of essays by various authors reflecting on what they would ask God, or on the very concept of questioning god. Each essay is accompanied by a portrait of the author drawn by David Liverett. "The intent of this book is to provide opportunity to ask questions: questions which will stretch you; questions which will strengthen you; questions which will sustain you as you deal with life. Use this resource in small groups, classes, and conversations to lead you to a deeper relationship with God. As you travel the path of growing in grace, be sure to walk with others who may shed light on your path." Ronald V. Duncan, General Director of Church of God Ministries "Few like hard questions because those questions push us, often, into places we'd just as soon not go. We struggle most with those who bring us face-to-face with God-or at least how we think about God. We suppress them, but they won't go away. This book can help you-wherever you are on the journey. Out of his own challenging journey, David Liverett helps us all to think more deeply and passionately, whether in the quiet of our studies or in our noisier journey with others, about life's perplexities. I recommend this book as a guide with all kinds of uses: for individuals who are trying to live with them now, for groups of all sizes who are seeking to live faithfully and honestly, for Sunday school classes-or for anyone who just likes to read about faithful living." --Arthur Kelly, Christian educator and former editor In these pages you will encounter a faith that bridges across unanswerable questions to a relationship beyond question. You will feel the agony and pain of believers who've struggled mightily with life's biggest questions without becoming cynical or despairing; who think if Jesus himself once cried out, "My God, why have you forsaken me?" then it's no betrayal of faith to have their own questions for God." Mort Crim, retired television and radio journalist
A great gift book for fans of gospel music, this is a quick reference for people who want to know more about their favorite singers. Most of the biographical information and stories were written by the singers themselves or their close friends and family.
