ALL PROCEEDS TO THE PROSTATE CANCER UK CHARITY "I'm unknowing, almost naively uninformed. But not for much longer. Soon the consultant will hurry me across the rubicon into a whole new world. A world with closer horizons and a new way of looking at things. The old me will disappear, and there will be no point in trying to find him again. No point in looking back." Do you have a relative who has been diagnosed? Are you worried about Prostate Cancer? Do you want to know what the treatment involves? What it's actually like to go through it? Would you benefit from another person's first-hand experience? There are many men, and I was one, who believe that ignorance is bliss. That Prostate Cancer can't happen to them and by ignoring the signs it will go away. There are others who stubbornly refuse to get tested and dismiss the risk with a resigned shrug. A fatalistic attitude that demands that they should simply accept their fate. This book aims to show people what's involved. That if I can confront it -you can too. When I was diagnosed, I was swamped with factual information, but precious little on what it would feel like to go through it. I wanted a book written by an ordinary person who was enjoying life, someone who'd got through to the other side without having to be a super-hero. There's no resorting to private treatment here. No long lingering appointments with the surgeon. No time to get on first-name terms with the consultant while you discuss your pathology report. This book relates the glacially slow NHS journey that most of us will face, plus a few complications thrown in for dramatic effect. This book is aimed at those who have just been diagnosed, their relatives, those who are curious, but principally those who are reluctant to seek help. This is the story of my personal battle with prostate cancer. It's not a medical book as such, but there's enough medical information to satisfy the curiosity of most people. Beware though! It's intimate and candid and the reader is spared nothing. You'll probably find out more about the author than it would be wise to know about anybody! I hope you find it a humorous, heart-warming and sympathetic account. Follow me into the hospital and strap yourself in for the ultimate white-knuckle ride!
"Everyone who has ever built anywhere a 'new Heaven' first found the power thereto in his own Hell."-Friedrich NietzscheThe virtual paradise of Aaru is destroyed. The lords and ladies are overthrown. Most of the Vedas are captured, and Magic Man's dark creation, Hel rules with an iron fist, exacting her horrible revenge.Arch Veda Rose is afraid it's all her fault. While the defeated lords and ladies sequester themselves in the impregnable tree-fortress of Yggdrasil, Rose decides it is up to her to make things right. Together she, and her bitter rival Matteus decide to work together to secretly infiltrate Hel's Kingdom of Dis and rescue their tormented friends. At the same time, Koren has struggles of her own, mourning the untimely death of her father and separation from her sister Rose even as the corrupt megachurch pastor, Benjamin Belial, inserts himself deeper and deeper into her life, affairs, and family, and public opinion turns increasingly against Elysian Industries. Though worlds apart, both sisters must traverse a proverbial Dante's Path with no guarantee of success or survival.
What happens when "happily ever after" has come and gone? On the eve of her only daughter, Princess Raven's wedding, an aging Snow White finds it impossible to share in the joyous spirit of the occasion. The ceremony itself promises to be the most glamorous social event of the decade. Snow White's castle has been meticulously scrubbed, polished and opulently decorated for the celebration. It is already nearly bursting with jubilant guests and merry well-wishers. Prince Edel, Raven's fiancé, is a fine man from a neighboring kingdom and Snow White's own domain is prosperous and at peace. Things could not be better, in fact, except for one thing: The king is dead. The queen has been in a moribund state of hopeless depression for over a year with no end in sight. It is only when, in a fit of bitter despair, she seeks solitude in the vastness of her own sprawling castle and climbs a long disused and forgotten tower stair that she comes face to face with herself in the very same magic mirror used by her stepmother of old. It promises her respite in its shimmering depths, but can Snow White trust a device that was so precious to a woman who sought to cause her such irreparable harm? Can she confront the demons of her own difficult past to discover a better future for herself and her family? And finally, can she release her soul-crushing grief and suffocating loneliness to once again discover what "happily ever after" really means? Only time will tell as she wrestles with her past and is forced to confront The Reflections of Queen Snow White.
"A fine work and a unique concept.." 5/5 -5th Annual Writer's Digest eBook Awards#2 Kindle Bestseller -New Adult & College Fantasy!"...Death and the stillness of death are the only things certain and common to all in this future..." -Friedrich Nietzsche Rose is dying. Her body is wasted and skeletal. She is too sick and weak to move. Every day is an agony and her only hope is that death will find her swiftly before the pain grows too great to bear. She is sixteen years old. Rose has made peace with her fate, but her younger sister, Koren, certainly has not. Though all hope appears lost Koren convinces Rose to make one final attempt at saving her life after a mysterious man in a white lab coat approaches their family about an unorthodox and experimental procedure. A copy of Rose's radiant mind is uploaded to a massive super computer called Aaru - a virtual paradise where the great and the righteous might live forever in an arcadian world free from pain, illness, and death. Elysian Industries is set to begin offering the service to those who can afford it and hires Koren to be their spokes-model. Within a matter of weeks, the sisters' faces are nationally ubiquitous, but they soon discover that neither celebrity nor immortality is as utopian as they think. Not everyone is pleased with the idea of life everlasting for sale. What unfolds is a whirlwind of controversy, sabotage, obsession, and danger. Rose and Koren must struggle to find meaning in their chaotic new lives and at the same time hold true to each other as Aaru challenges all they ever knew about life, love, and death and everything they thought they really believed.
"... Let them have everything - health, food, a place to live, entertainment. They are and remain unhappy and low-spirited for the demon waits and waits..."-Friedrich NietzscheRose is a Veda.In Elysian Industries' virtual paradise of Aaru, that means she's practically a goddess. She is immortal. She is powerful. A limitless paradise is hers and her friends' to command. They are free from sickness and pain, old age and death. She should be ecstatic over her prestige and privilege, but the gilded utopia has lost its luster. In a reality where anything can be hers with a thought, and Rose can master any skill instantly with nothing but her imagination, to what can she still aspire? She has all of eternity to fill, but what will her purpose be? Rose adores her sweet, Latin boyfriend, Franco. She loves wiling away endless immaculate days with her friends, but shouldn't there be more to life than mere play? Also, Rose is dogged by deep concern for her little sister, Koren, the Elysian Industries spokes-model and reality star back in the "Before" world.Though Koren is wealthy, famous, and idolized by millions of adoring fans, her life is spinning out of control. Her parents' marriage is on the rocks, and the boyfriend of her dreams, Jonas Perry, seems suddenly indifferent. Koren finds her celebrity increasingly isolating, her grueling work schedule exhausting, and the constant scrutiny of her personal life unwelcomed and intrusive. To top it all off, she has regular nightmares about the death of her friend, Kiku, and the still-at-large Magic Man who nearly stole away her everything.Koren and Rose have more to fear from this quarter than they know. Magic Man's obsession with the teenage idol has not lessened, and he is far from defeated. With vital aid from an unexpected source, his nefarious schemes to make Koren his own and to hack the Aaru mainframe are on track and moving forward. Unless the sisters can thwart his sinister designs, everyone and everything the girls hold dear could be destroyed.
