The title 'Music matters' is really a shortened version of: 'Music does matter a great deal though not necessarily to everyone'. Some simply wish to have it as background for easy listening whereas for others it is the very stuff of life. The term Music is broad and covers many musical genres. No attempt will be made to examine folk music, the Viennese masterworks, funk, jazz, pop and the rest. Instead the work of the church musician is looked at in some detail. The twenty chapters offer much variety. Coming upon unrelated topics unexpectedly is sometimes called serendipity which often provides an interesting and informative read.
A newly-edited version of the Classic novel by Emily Brontë
In the year 2248, the world is the city, and the city is gray and black, an immense favela. Narrow, crooked streets are lined with improvised, rectangular dwellings. These cubes are stacked one on another as high as anyone can see from the street, connected by shaky zigzag stairs and vertical ladders. Most of the cubes are made of scavenged materials--tin, plastic, cardboard. Sooty streaks of black and gray cover walls. An ever-present smoky haze fills the air. Food is scarce. Electricity is scarce. Safe, private spaces are scarce. The air smells of sulfur and burning rubber. But two young people, Daniel and his friend Haley, find hope for each other and for humanity. Using elements of Norse myth, science fiction, Western adventures, and dystopian fantasy, Thor's Hammer follows Daniel's journey of discovery, First, Daniel wants to save himself and his friends from the threats posed by Rhea and Cronus, but as he learns more about his own story and his amazing powers, his mission takes on a much grander scope. Suspenseful to the end, Thor's Hammer takes the reader on an unforgettable epic journey to a world unlike any other.
The main fictional character, Lolotea, is based on Lozen, a historical Chihenne Chiricahua Apache skilled warrior and prophet, and younger sister of Victorio. Lozen and Lolotea team together using Lozen's documented mental ability to locate the enemy, the U.S. and Mexican Armies, destroying their homeland and cultures. Lolotea uses her incredible cunning in strategy, ruthless bravery, and fluency in English, French, Spanish and Apache with an acquired skill of Morse Code to act as an interpreter and scout for the U.S. Army while a secret agent for Geronimo and the rebellious Chiricahua. A chance encounter with Sergeant David A. Howcroft, an artillery battery commander changes her life, as well as his, forever as they become entangled in a tragic love story caught in the conflicting web of Native Americans protecting their families, property and customs against the "noble" directive of a young nation, "Manifest Destiny". The reader will experience historical battles that have been verified on the ground with descriptive clarity bringing surrealism to the years the Chiricahua evaded capture. Historical characters and events are juxtaposed with fictional ones in an intriguing manner that is graphically poignant and though provoking.
Emergency Exits carries messages from a strange country--stories about people who live on the fringes--at the limits of sanity, the sharp edges of society, the borderlands between the real and the fantastic. Characters with nothing left to lose, or everything to gain. Ones who know things no one else can believe or understand. People who always need to know where the to find the exits. Characters from a universe where no one understands what's happening or why, what came before the Big Bang or how the universe ends. People who have secrets they cannot tell, and no one would believe if they did.

Undoubtedly, the Second World War was one of the darkest periods of history. With untold losses and countless with physical and mental scars, there was little to celebrate except the relief of closure. Yet what happened once the noise of the shelling subsided and the smoke dissipated? Certainly, late 1940s peacetime Britain was far from easy.
Wartime is costly. Whilst the human cost is a burden which remains part of our every waking thoughts for many years after the end of the conflict, the physical cost, at least in some cases, is easier to deal with.
Examines the preparations for defending Britain during World War II.

Sunday Morning is the best story ever written and if it ain't, it's close.
Soldiers in the trenches were issued with four bullets a day, unless they were either snipers or manned a machine gun. This does not seem like a lot of bullets; however, four bullets a day is 28 per week - therefore, a million soldiers need 28 million bullets per week. Of course, there were a lot more than a million troops at the Western Front, so
Back pain is very hard (often impossible) to diagnose and to specify, hence heavy painkillers are thrown at people. But the only way to beat the pain is to understand it. Based on cutting-edge research into back pain and the psychology of pain itself, David Rogers and Grahame Brown have set up the Functional Restoration Service at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham the UK s leading centre for back pain. Here they have developed the pioneering BIOPSYCHOSOCIAL approach: BIO How your body processes pain; what physical triggers you have and why; where your body holds painPSYCHO where your pain is coming from; what exactly your pain is; the power of your mind to deal with and stop painSOCIAL all the environmental factors that will contribute to your back pain, and how, why and when to change themBased on this revolutionary and already hugely successful approach, Back to Life offers a whole new way of dealing with back pain: - Understand the psychology of pain- Debunk the myths- Find the source of your pain- Manage your pain including all the emotions and anxiety that go with it- Master exercises and stretches- Identify and solve the social factors- Get lasting relief
