PERSONAL ACKNOWLEDGEMENTSBeing that this book is about women, there is absolutely no way I could have put it together if it wasn't for the women that have crossed my path. During my years of dealing with various women, I have to admit that I have had more than a little, whether it was laughing with them, going out to dinner, to a movie, to the park, to the beach, shopping, joyriding, playing cards or having sex. I enjoyed every precious moment with them and I will cherish those moments as long as my brain continues to work.Thank you so dearly for putting up with me. On the flip side of this coin, there are women I have dealt with that I pissed off or hurt during my years of immaturity. If there was a way I could go back in time and undo the pain and frustration I caused you, I wouldn't hesitate to do so because I know you ladies thought more of me back then. I know you all didn't forgive me back then, but I surely hope you do now.Whether it was good times or bad times, I shared with you wonderful women, each one of you played a significant role in the man I am today and for that wonderful experience I am humbly grateful, deeply honored and sincerely appreciative to have been blessed to have had our journeys connect.I wrote this book to start a dialogue, create awareness and get women to realize and believe that they are worth way more than they can imagine in life. I want women to know that they do not have to settle for any man just for the sake of convenience, security or whatever. There will always be a gentleman available; who is not only compatible with them, but one that will find them intriguing, interesting, intelligent and beautiful.Sometimes it takes a little time to find a man that really honors women, but trust me - it's always worth the wait. I intend to reach millions of readers, mostly women. If I can get one woman to read my book and walk away feeling much better about her life and the direction she wants to go in terms of a relationship, then my mission will be complete.Nothing that I have written in this book is intended to disrespect or offend any of my readers. I mention this because some of the language in this book may not agree with the readers.
Dregs is a seven-year-old little boy who loves the game of basketball. He is very excited when the coach announces tryouts for the school's basketball team. His excitement is short lived once he discovers that his friend can't play very well. After getting permission from his parents, Dregs decides that he will teach his friend to play in hopes of them both making the team. In this coming of age book, Dregs shows that it's very important to teach what you have learned to others.
What is a Scribbling? Roget's College Thesaurus; Gives a verb - Write Carelessly; Scratch, Scrawl. What is a Madman? Roget's College Thesaurus; A noun - Mad, Crazy, Insane, Rabid, Frantic, and Foolish. Are you using the Universal "Man"? As far as Scribblings and madman are concerned, I prefer those words to writings and crazy guy in the corner. We are all madmen (so to speak) writing carelessly in this world. We are bound by society's definition of who we are and what we do. The book is about the internal battles that we all have had or are experiencing in this existence. I choose to write my fights down on paper and not let them fester in my head. This book contains 5 sections: Poet, Priest, Lover, Thief, and the Vagabond. A description of three sections are below. The Poet's Section - To be brief, if that is possible for a person of words, this section contains 10 poems that to me represent the power of poetry. They act as therapy for both the reader and the writer. The Poet which is named after that primary character expresses one of the many ways that I feel about writing. I do like to rhyme words. I do like writing when drunk, although that leads to a pocket of mushy poems written on napkins. The most important thing to remember about my poetry is word flow. I am a writer of spoken word poetry. The imagery is important because that paints the picture in the mind of the reader and puts them in the same place as the narrator of the poem. Also, think of these poems as written not by me but rather they represent the madman in all of us. Each of us has felt this way and experienced these feelings no matter how deep we have buried them, or tried to hide them. That is what all my poems do; speak to the truth behind the truth, the part of us that we fear. I have walked in the places that we fear to tread; those places where we are all dead. The Priest's Section - The Priest is another of my favorite characters. At times he has been the chronicler, the old man, and a little boy. The priest allows me to examine life and avoid the pitfalls of self-delusion and self-pity. I know what I have done and am ashamed at times but like any good layman will tell you Hate the sin but love the sinner. This then is the Priests function, the grounding effect. The Lover section - To describe this section is the easiest. I am a hopeless romantic, despite all my failures at Love. I love Love. I am still to this day in love with my sweetheart from the 7th grade. If given the opportunity, I would wine and dine her, place her upon a pedestal again, and rekindle that Love in her. The Lover in me expresses the perfect idea of Love. A love that is Never-ending, Boundless, Timeless, Eternal, and Perfect. In this section this is expressed in numerous ways at different times. The most eloquent expression for me is from Star Trek "I have been and will always be your {lover}." Spock, says friend in the movie, this however is my reality. Watch out for surprise endings! Enjoy The Vagabond section - A hobo, an itinerant illiterate, a man without country or home, no space upon a mantle to call his own. These are the words that I have used to describe the feelings and motivations behind this voice in my head. This character is the embodiment of my destiny which is "Loneliness is my destiny. To love many but never be loved. To know many but never be known. My heart laments, my soul repents a destiny such as this." I write as a poet. I confess as the priest. I Love and take as the lover and thief. I live as the Vagabond and that has made all the difference.
In 1996, The madman picked up his book of thoughts and began to write. The words flowed from the rift in his soul. His addictions, his failures, his daemons are lain here on these pages. Fifteen months later he finished this book of thoughts, so that perhaps you can learn from his journey into madness.

This book is a compilation of the Madman series written by Derrick Williams. As such it contains: Laments of the Madman (2nd Edition), Scribblings of the Madman and Inside the Mind of a Madman. The idea behind the mad man is simple; WE are the entire madman. We have taken life's journey through valleys and mountains. We have experienced sorrow, pain, infinite joy and beauteous love. We have crippled ourselves at the expense of others while being crippled by others. The madman is the voice that seeks to do away with self-delusion. That strips us down to the bone and exposes us for what we are: human. If you don't believe me, then you have not looked at your own life hard enough. The boulder that crashed into you was not enough to break you. The Poet Williams had his "aha" moment long ago and he writes to show others the path to accepting who you really are wonderfully human. While some of the poems do appear more than once in this particular book, the goal is to tell a story. A story of the who, what, when, where and how it all went down. The story behind the story, the mask behind the mask, the truth underneath the truth. That is where the madman and you really are. Dear Reader, enjoy your journey into the realm of the madman when you find yourself have a cup of chai and talk. Regards, The Poet Williams
