Mitch Alexander, a gifted artist battered emotionally by the horrors of war, claws his way back toward normalcy through the healing power of art. Then he vanishes while painting on the Malibu cliffs-into captivity deep in Mexico. A chance for forbidden love appears and he goes for it regardless of the risk. Armed with an amazing talent and a marine's survival instinct, he faces a savage drug cartel and a rogue government intelligence operation. Dream Wrecks gives the reader a view into Mitch's psyche at the moments of artistic creation that keep him alive-and it jolts the reader with the brutal realities of a high tech drug war with Mitch in the cross hairs. The crackling action rips through central Mexico from lovely San Miguel de Allende to the exotically dangerous Sierra Gorda. Dream Wrecks is a mesmerizing roller coaster of plot twists hurtling to an extraordinary surprise ending.

This second volume of An Artist's Journey is entitled, Under A Wandering Star, because it chronicles Dick Heimbold's lifelong travels along the highways and byways of the world of art. There are many ways to traverse this world-no one path to follow. Dick just followed the wandering star of his curiosity wherever it took him. It's been a great journey so far-with stops for all sorts of art experiences that enriched his life and connection to the human condition. The pages of this volume display his vibrant artwork and tell many stories of his human side, starting with his childhood in a small New Jersey town and continuing through his life as he produces hundreds of works in a surprising range of media.

In the twenty-third century, California is a hellish place. A corrupt dictatorship led by the Business Council has taken over the coastal areas and renamed them Mainstream. Anyone who rebels is exiled to the Out-Lands. The only people who venture deep into the blazing interior are the Freeps. They rely on mobile climate-control systems called beetle packs to protect them from the sweltering temperatures. The Freeps are networked via computers to their own leader-Algo, a cyber presence unable to grasp certain human concepts. After refusing to work his assigned accounting job, Joe is kicked out of Mainstream and eventually joins the Freeps. There he meets Mary, a farmers' daughter who wants to help the settlements, and Funt, a deserter from Mainstream's army. While Joe and Mary grow closer, Funt lets his jealousy and bitterness drive him out of the community. Funt may have left, but he's not gone for good. When Joe finds out that Funt has allied himself with Mainstream to destroy the Freeps' way of life, he urges his friends to rise up. In the power struggle that follows, Joe must take advantage of the Freeps' ingenuity and unique culture if he wants to survive.
