Duncan Rouch here presents poems that honour people about their positive nature and reflect on challenges that people face in life. Duncan began writing poems as portraits of people who he met overseas, to remember and honour them. Here in this book are new poems of that portrait type. These poems also connect to the idea that it would useful to acknowledge the positive characteristics of people. This concept is also response to people in the public eye being generally criticised on and on and on, by the media. Also, here are poems to reflect on key challenges that people face in life, from both internal and external issues, including murder and terrorism. These poems, then, often have an emotionally darker feel, though often with at least a little light open for hope. People portrayed here include Lady Dianna Spencer (I Am the Sky), folk singer Joan Baez (In The Car With Joan Baez), poet Sylvia Plath (Present Imperfect, and Hubcap), and those in tragic terrorist events, including 11th September 2001 attacks, USA (Passion, Flight 93, and Empty Man).
Planet Earth is a minuscule part of our galaxy, the Milky Way, and the only place where we humans can practically live. We all know this, but why are we so slow to fix the major environmental issues which are degrading the quality of life on this one planet? Here Dr Duncan Rouch, Dr David Smith and Professor Andrew Ball answer this question, with an exciting novel response that digs down to explain how we got to this impasse. They also discuss a clear innovative forward strategy, based on a new inclusive definition of environments, that brings in agriculture and industrial companies as key stakeholders for conserving the environment.Anyone interested in environmental problems, including people in agriculture, industry and government, should read this book.
