Selv undgik han flere gange at blive slået ihjel, fordi tatoveringen på hans arm kategoriserede ham som 'Økonomisk Uundværlig Jøde'. Når han udførte tvangsarbejde på tyske fabrikker, havde han et skilt om halsen, hvorpå der stod, at han skulle hænges på stedet, hvis han begik fejl.Da krigen sluttede, var han 25 år og vejede 28 kilo.Eddie døde som 101-årig den 12. oktober 2021.
