Preguntó angustiada la presentadora. Yo no sé respondió el hombre, están diciendo que si no les devolvemos los TRES MIL DOSCIENTOS MILLONES DE DÓLARES van a volar todo el pueblo. La extrambótica noticia (por lo absurdo de la cifra), no tubo ninguna trascendencia y se extravió entre los borbotones de denuncias sobre asesinatos, masacres, secuestros, desapariciones, extorsiones y demás crímenes que brotaban diariamente por todos los rincones del país. Cuatro años más tarde un joven que había pertenecido a las autodefensas le contó a su papá, mientras el padre lo visitaba en la prisión, que él había comandado una cuadrilla que emboscó y le robó a un convoy de las farc un cargamento de dinero, y que él era el único sobreviviente que conocía el sitio exacto donde habían enterrado esa fortuna. Meses después, cuando el joven recuperó la libertad, buscó al papá con el fin de solicitarle su ayuda para recuperar ese dinero, el padre no prestó atención a la solicitud, sin embargo los sucesos de los dos últimos años, aunado a las circunstancias del momento que habían golpeado fuertemente al padre, lo obligaron a aceptar el pedido de ayuda, y es a partir de ese momento que este hombre comienza a experimentar una serie de vivencias, aventuras y peligros que se convirtieron en el alma de esta obra.

In the middle of the year 2.004, a common day, the monotony of the nightly news was interrupted by a call made to the television channel, by the councilman of a municipality embedded in the farthest of the eastern plains of Colombia, to denounce that the criminals of the farc had taken the village and threatened to dynamite the whole town if they did not return the money. "What money?", asked the anguished presenter, "I don't know," answered the man, "they are saying that if we don't give them back the THREE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS they are going to blow up the whole town." The bizarre news, due to the absurdity of the money amount, had no transcendence and was lost among the many denunciations about murders, massacres, kidnappings, disappearances, extortion, and other crimes that were springing up daily in every corner of the country. Four years later, a young man who had been part of the self-defense groups told his father, while the father was visiting him in prison, that he had commanded a gang that ambushed and robbed a convoy of the farc with a money shipment, and that he was the only survivor who knew the exact place where the fortune had been buried. Months later, when the young man regained his freedom, he sought out his father to ask for his help in recovering that money, the father did not pay attention to the request, however, the events of the last two years together with the circumstances of the moment, which had hit the father hard, forced him to accept the request for help, and it is from that moment that this man began to undergo a series of experiences, adventures, and dangers that became the soul of this work.

The Marmol family is thrown into chaos upon the passing of its leader, Carlos Marmol. Edgar, Carlos's youngest son, attempts to lead his family through the darkness that has risen in the aftermath. Two states away, the cold-hearted Aimee Maddox, a small-town queen, has come to the realization that her empty life has hit rock bottom. Both Edgar and Aimee are searching for a way out of their sorrows. Edgar's only desire is to live a life that would make his father proud and plans to do so by fulfilling his dying dream of uniting his shattered and broken family.
