A while ago I came across a newspaper clipping-a recipe written by a Baltimore lady-that had long lain dormant in my desk. It ran as follows: "A great many husbands are spoiled by mismanagement. Some women go about it as if their husbands were bladders, and blow them up; others keep them constantly in hot water; others let them freeze, by their carelessness and indifference.

"Girls, come to order!" shouted Hilda Bretherton in a somewhat disorderly tone. "How can we come to order without a president?" queried a rosy-cheeked, roly-poly damsel answering to the name of Puddy Kennett. "I elect Prue Shaftsbury!" screamed Hilda above the merry din of voices. "You can't elect-you simply nominate," said Prue. "I second the motion," said Nannie Branscome, and her remark was instantly followed by a storm of "ayes" before they were called for, and the president was declared elected and proceeded to take her seat.

How to Cook Husbands is a classic marriage guide by Elizabeth Strong Worthington. "A great many husbands are spoiled by mismanagement. Some women go about it as if their husbands were bladders, and blow them up; others keep them constantly in hot water; others let them freeze, by their carelessness and indifference. Some keep them in a stew, by irritating ways and words; others roast them; some keep them in pickle all their lives. Now it is not to be supposed that any husband will be good, managed in this way--turnips wouldn't; onions wouldn't; cabbage-heads wouldn't, and husbands won't; but they are really delicious when properly treated" Elizabeth Strong Worthington (October 5, 1851 - October 2, 1916) was a popular American writer during the latter part of the 19th century. Her first books When Peggy Smiled: A Love Story and The Biddy Club, were published in 1888. Her next works The Little Brown Dog and How to Cook Husbands (arguably her most popular work), came along in 1898, and her final book was The Gentle Art of Cooking Wives in 1900. She sometimes wrote under the pen name Griffith A. Nicholas.

The Gentle Art Of Cooking WivesThis book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature.In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards:1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions.2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration.
