De quel oeil elle a vu son temps, compris l'âme et l'esprit de ses contemporains, regardé en arrière la série des causes prochaines ou reculées, essayé de pénétrer l'avenir, si couvert alors et si caché, voilà ce que je voudrais reconnaître et définir..."
