2019 editionDo you want to learn about Greece? So come to Sicily. It is a paradox, for sure, but only to a certain extent. The Greek cities of Sicily (Agrigento, Selinunte, Segesta, Syracuse, to mention the most important) were among the most beautiful of the Hellenic world. Nowadays, to visit the Valley of Temples at Agrigento or to watch a summer performance in the great Greek Theatre of Syracuse is to plunge yourself into the remote Hellenic past. And this is also true in Sicily for many other historical eras and civilizations, from the Spanish to the French. With the sole exception of Arab rule, that has left scarce physical testimony.Sicily is a book of history and art history, a compendium of the greatest civilizations and cultures of all time. A sunny island whose landscape is rich in contrasts, with a splendid coastline and a refined, delicious and varied cuisine of traditional flavors and exquisite aromas: the quintessence of Mediterranean culture, yet also dense with intellectual complexity and refinement, so well represented by the literary masterpieces of Luigi Pirandello, Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, Leonardo Sciascia, Gesualdo Bufalino and today, Andrea Camilleri. This guide leads you in a week long drive in the Island of Sicily: starting with Messina, touching the Aeolian Islands, and then Taormina, Acireale, Catania, Syracuse, Caltagirone, Piazza Armerina with its Roman Villa, Agrigento with the Greek Temples, Porto Empedocle, Selinunte, to arrive in Palermo, with a visit to Solunto and Monreale. It includes a section on Sicilian food and 33 regional recipes. It includes color photos and descriptions of the attractions of all the localities touched. It contains many reviews for the best recommended restaurants that are at the location described, you have the basic information ready: the name, address and telephone number are included in the guide together with the review.

Enrico Massetti wrote this book with 43 color images. As a matter of fact: Italy possesses the most remarkable artistic and cultural heritage globally. And its culture is not just found in the great creative cities but is diffuse, "spread" throughout national territory as in no other country. The proof?Le Marche. Its flat and sandy coast is interrupted by rugged, rocky precipices, a region with rich and varied countryside with the Adriatic Sea.The musical agricultural landscape of its gentle hills, the deep and mysterious caves, and the protected areas of natural beauty enriched with towns, villages, palaces, and religious buildings is of significant architectural and artistic value. It highlights the case with Ancona's cathedral, the regional capital, an essential Adriatic port, or Pesaro's temple. In Urbino, the Ducal Palace is a stupefying testimony of Renaissance grandeur. So naturally, it is unpardonable not to book a seat at the grand Sferisterio theatre for a play or musical performance if you are in Macerata during the summer. At Ascoli Piceno, the blend of medieval and renaissance architecture (S. Francesco, Loggia dei Mercanti, Piazza del Popolo, etc.) arrested the attention of even the most distracted visitor. But in almost all Le Marche's centers, even the smallest, there are many genuine artistic treasures. This guide leads you on a two-week car trip through Central Italy, in the Marches, Umbria, and Abruzzo regions. It covers the towns of Pesaro, Urbino, Gubbio, Perugia, Assisi, Spello, Foligno, Montefalco, Spoleto, Terni, Rieti, L'Aquila, Popoli, Rivisondoli, Roccaraso, Chieti, Pescara, Teramo, Ascoli Piceno, Macerata, Loreto, and Ancona. It includes many photos and descriptions of the attractions.

2019 editionAlthough it certainly has a thriving tourism industry, Ferrara is not on the typical foreign tourist's itinerary, which makes it perfect for those tourists who want to get off the beaten path of Venice-Florence-Rome and soak in some authentic northern Italian culture. It's characterized by twisting medieval cobblestoned streets, a Duomo (cathedral) with a looming Gothic facade, and--best of all - a castle straight out of storybooks, complete with towers, moat, and drawbridges (that you can cross during the day). Thanks to the d'Este family of astute art patrons, Ferrara contains many beautiful objects de art, but the genuine masterpiece is the city itself. Half medieval, half Renaissance, the dual cityscape was the vision of oligarch Ercole d'Este, who hired architect Biagio Rossetti to meld the newer section to the old seamlessly. This careful planning earned Ferrara the title of Italy's first "modern city." Today, its captivating, anachronistic ambiance is best explored on foot or by bicycleFerrara: one of the most beautiful of Italian cities, was formerly the capital of the Estensi and has been resuscitated in modern times from the degrading decadence into which it fell with its inclusion into the Papal States. This is a guide to Ferrara. There are extensive descriptions and photos of the attractions. The Estense Castle history is covered in detail.

2019 edition"For me, Bolzano - Bozen is a mountain transformed into a city. The moment you move, it changes appearance. You edge forward and the profile is different, you go back and discover new faces. It speaks different languages. At its heart, it is an actor, enchanting and contradictory, haughty an alluring, warm hearted and chilly." - R. MessnerAt the Crossroads of CultureBolzano - Bozen, the only city in the world with both a competition in honor of F. Busoni and a house where Mozart slept. An elegant salon where different people meet, an exchange of cultures, music, and performances. The central Piazza Walther named for the troubadour Walther von der Vogelweide, one street named for Dante and another for Goethe; a conservatory carrying the name of Monteverdi an Orchestra of Haydn. A trilingual University, and an Academy of Design and a Film School both bilingual. This is what makes Bolzano - Bozen a little big capital of European atmosphere!Bolzano - Bozen: The Gateway to the DolomitesBolzano - Bozen lies 265 m above sea level along one of the most important routes running from the Mediterranean to the North Sea, connecting North and South. It is surrounded on all sides by mountains. Above the city, in the Dolomites, lies the "Rosengarten"- the legendary realm of Laurin, the dwarf king. His enchanted garden glows an unearthly red at twilight. This is a guide to Bolzano - Bozen and its neighboring villages: San Genesio, Renon, Colle, Sarentino, Eggental and Carezza with its lake. There are extensive descriptions and photos of the attractions, and a comprehensive section on local cuisine and wine.It contains many reviews for the best recommended restaurants that are at the location described.

2019 editionPisa is an ancient city, first Greek, then Etruscan and Roman; a great Maritime Republic and finally part of the Medici Grand Duchy of Tuscany.Pisa developed its own architectural style by blending classical and oriental forms. Magnificent Italian Gothic sculpture was also born at Pisa with Nicola Pisano's school which produced Giovanni Pisano, Arnolfo da Cambia, and Andrea and Nino Pisano. From the early 11th to the late 14th centuries Pisa was one of the most significant and most active Italian centers of art. Proof of this is the remarkable group of buildings constituted by the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Leaning Tower and the adjacent Cemetery which, in their perfect isolation, form one of the most solemn and enchanting corners in all of Italy. We cannot even attempt to list the works of art produced by this extraordinary flowering in Pisa. There are the superb bronze Doors by Bonanno (late 12th-century), the Pulpit by Giovanni Pisano (1310) in the Cathedral; the mosaics, the paintings by Cimabue, Andrea del Santo, Beccafumi, and Sodoma. Also, the inlaid woodwork in the choir, the Tomb which Tino da Camaino sculptured for Emperor Henry VII, and the incredible collection of Greek, Roman and medieval sculptures which throng the four sides of the 14th-15th-century Cemetery beneath a veritable treasure-house of medieval frescoes. The chain of artistic miracles continues unbroken in architectural setting untouched by the passing of the centuries. This is a guide to Pisa, for one day visit to the Piazza dei Miracoli and its famous Leaning Tower. There are extensive descriptions and photos of the attractions. It has a listing of many reviews for the best-recommended restaurants.

Enrico Massetti wrote this book with 63 color images. In this little book, I cover the Great Dolomites Road. It crosses three regions: Südtirol, Trentino, and Veneto. It is a classic itinerary to visit some of the most scenic parts of the Dolomites. I advised anyone driving along it to begin in Bozen (Bolzano in Italian). The road is paved and very well developed; however, it is curvy with a maximum gradient of 12% and requires actual driving.I only partly recommended the teams' route because the streets are very narrow and confusing, especially from the Fassa Valley. This guide will help you go on the entire road, with clear color maps that indicate the distance and time between places and photos of the localities. Furthermore, it gives you the route to follow between the different stages.Numerous viewpoints and parking areas on the Great Dolomite Road allow a panoramic view of the surrounding Dolomites. The guide describes the attractions in Bolzano, the Ötzi - the Iceman Museum, Bolzano's castles, and nearby locations. It then leads you in a drive from Bolzano to Cortina d'Ampezzo, going through the Carezza Lake, Val di Fassa, and the Tofana. It contains many reviews for the best-recommended restaurants at the location described. It includes maps, color photos, and descriptions of the attractions of all the localities touched. An extensive section is full of helpful information on how to get to Bolzano and Cortina, go back, and what kind of services are available to rent a bike, the favorite means of transportation to ride the Great Road. The Great Dolomite Road: ItineraryThe itinerary goes through Karneid, Nova Levante, Carezza Lake, Passo di Costalunga, Vigo di Fassa, Pozza di Fassa, Campitello di Fassa, Canazei, Pecol, the Fedaia Pass, Pieve di Livinallongo, Col di Lana, Falzarego Pass, Valparola Ridge, Cinque Torri, and the Tofana.

2019 edition - t is no mistake that Bellagio is called the "pearl" of Lake Como. It is undoubtedly the most famous resort on the lake. For centuries, Bellagio's scenic location has enchanted artists and writers, not only from Italy, but also from abroad. It is situated on the tip of a headland that divides the lake into the two legs of Como and Lecco. The town stretches along the coast and part of it goes up the slopes of the promontory.Because of its location Bellagio has a great variety of views; indeed, it offers a good view of the whole lake. On the northern horizon one can see the Pre-Alps.Some of the best views can be seen from the park of Villa Serbelloni and from the top of Monte San Primo. On a particularly clear day, one can make out the Alps, from Mont Blanc to the Ortles, and the Madonnina on top of the Duomo of Milan. Both the historic center situated at a higher level dominated by the Romanesque Basilica Of San Giacomo (enlarged in the Baroque Age) and the more recent arcade lake-front are all preserved intact. Among the aristocratic villas let's remember Villa Serbelloni, first castle, then country residence and transformed into villa at the end of the 15th century. Later once again restructured in the 17th and turned into a hotel during the last decade of the 19th century, it is presently appointed headquarters of conventions and study tours. This guide covers Bellagio on Lake Como, from Lecco - Varenna, or, in alternative, via Como. There are extensive descriptions and photos of the attractions. This guide contains many reviews for the best recommended restaurants that are at walking distance from the boat pier or the train station.
