We're way into the new craze called quilling. "Craze" is an unlikely word to describe a craft that dates back to the Renaissance, but whatever - it's trending. In case you don't know, quilling has nothing to do with hedgehogs or feather pens. It's a paper craft that involves rolling narrow strips of paper into unique 3D shapes. These little paper forms can then be used to decorate greeting cards, pictures, gift bags and boxes, or glued together to make mosaics, sculptures and other works of art. And here's why we heart it so much: Quilling is creative, easy, fun, inexpensive and, once you get on a roll (ha), incredibly relaxing. It's also pretty addicting - which is why we're giving you the deets on how to make dozens of different shapes. Pretty soon you'll want to be quilling and chilling all the time.
Pyrography - derived from the Greek pur (fire) and graphos (writing) - has been around since fire itself. While there isn't hard evidence, it's quite likely that cavemen etched the walls of their caves with fire sticks. While today it's primarily done on wood with a heated pen, it's been done (and continues to be done) on leather, clay, and even gourds. Historically, it was used to decorate and brand various tools and musical instruments. Kitchenware or folk guitars were marked with a little bit of art both to convey the owner's personality, and to distinguish their stuff from other people's. It wasn't really until the late Victorian era that the art form was taken up in earnest, and done on blank "canvasses" of wood and other materials rather than being a decorative embellishment. In the early 20th century, soldering pens were developed, from which today's woodburning tools were derived. This is a fun project for men, and even kids (under adult supervision, of course). Luckily, the start up costs are cheap, and it's an easy hobby to learn. If you enjoy it, woodburning can be the source of DIY gifts for the family for years to come!

You need surprisingly little in the way of clay tools to get started with polymer clay, and your money is far better spent on the clay itself so that you have plenty to learn and experiment with. So find out what you need, what you don't, and why, in this article - my attempt to save beginner polymer clayers a ton of money. If you are anything like me, the prospect of buying polymer clay tools and supplies turns you into the proverbial kid in a candy store. There are so many shiny, tempting bits and pieces to choose from, and at the time, they all seem absolutely necessary. Without all the latest gadgets, it seems that you would stand no chance whatsoever of producing even a half decent finished product. Like most polymer clayers, I have fallen into the trap of buying way too much stuff - more than once, I might add. Much of it I still don't use, even all these years later. I wish this advice had been around when I first started out - lol.

Turning wood can be a relatively low cost hobby (in woodworking all things are relative). A mini-lathe, a set of turning tools, a grinder for sharpening, a work light and some protective gear can be purchased for between $750 and $1000. A mini-lathe can easily be stored under a bench. Setting it all up takes a relatively small amount of space. This book is designed to give you an understanding of the tools used by turners and the skills to safely and effectively use them. You'll practice so that you start to develop a "feel" for turning. The class begins with the fundamental rules for turning spindles safely and confidently and progresses to expanding your newly learned skills to turning of bowls from green (freshly cut) wood.

Do you live with a person obsessed with video games? A person who'd rather play Minecraft than ball? Who would sooner build worlds in Terraria than accompany you to the neighborhood barbecue? I took it hard, the day I finally admitted to myself that what most inspires my nine-year-old son is a video game. Certain we were on the road to laziness, brain atrophy, and obesity, I went through a long spell of helicopter parenting: policing, nagging, and threatening. My lowest move was to hide the ipad. This was not a sustainable approach. It didn't make the desire for video games go away. If anything, the deprivation increased the appetite. It made everybody feel bad. I had to face facts: the world was against me in this fight. Laptops, ipads, ipods, smart phones, Xbox-this stuff isn't going anywhere. I needed a positive approach to video games, to screen time in general, a term meaning any time spent in front of a screen: games, movies, or movies of other kids playing games. The following book worked.

As everyone is stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, without access to our usual workout studios or fitness equipment, we're getting creative with our exercises. While there are countless household items that double as workout equipment, it's also worth noting that you can weight train without weights. Seriously. Olympic weightlifter Allan Contreras, a coach at Future training, knows this firsthand. As someone who competes (in the Olympics, no less) by lifting heavy weights, he's in the same situation as the rest of the world, unable to train in the usual, out-of-the-house manner. What's an Olympic weightlifter to do? Work with his own body weight. "I turn to some of my go-to bodyweight exercises, which I do three times a week in the morning," says Contreras, noting that they help to wake his body up and work all of his muscles. The moves that he turns to work together for full-body strength, gets his body working on multiple planes (think lateral movements), strengthen his stabilizer muscles, and all essentially make his body more primed to take on heavy weights again once he's able to do so. Keep scrolling for his go-to at-home workout-zero equipment needed. This book will tell you about it!
There are so many blogs and articles out there geared toward girls and women on praying for their future spouses, but almost none geared specifically toward men... so we thought we'd help fill that gap a bit and offer a little advice for single guys on how to pray for your future wife as you navigate the single life. Being a single guy in Los Angeles, I've had my fair share of relationship highs and lows over the years. Beautiful women are abundant in this place, probably more so than any other city in the world. They're at every street corner, every coffee shop, every bar, and of course... in every casting office. Makes me think of a famous line written by the 18th century English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, which says: "Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink." This city has an overabundance of beautiful women, but that doesn't mean that most of them are suitable for you to bring home and introduce to your Mama. In LA, and in many other places, it can seem to be a daunting task to not only find a great gal, but one who also happens to be a great fit for you as well. So... how do we solve this dilemma? This book will tell you!

There is nothing in the world cuter than a kitten! Cat ownership has skyrocketed in the last 10 years, and it may surprise you to learn that there are more than 95 million pet cats in the US alone in 2020. While dogs are still more popular companions, it is clear that cats have joined the party as full fledged members of our households. Traditionally, it was thought that raising a kitten was easy compared to raising a puppy. To many of our grandparents, a cat was an outdoor mouser who lived on the porch or in a barn. They were independent, aloof and not terribly interested in trying to interact with their human owners. Only weird people treated cats as though they were genuine pets. Happily this view has changed, and cats have proven themselves to be loving and devoted companions. Cats still lag behind dogs in a few key ways, however. Cats tend to get less regular veterinary care, for instance. While most of us would not allow our dogs to roam the neighborhood unleashed, outdoor cats freely wander about. There is still a myth floating around that cats don't need as much human interaction as dogs to develop properly. It is time to bust these myths! Raising a kitten is similar to raising a puppy in many ways, and is completely different in others. How you raise your kitten will set up their relationship with you for life. Contrary to the myths, cats can be just as attached to and affectionate with their owners as dogs are- IF you do the work to build this bond. In this book, we will cover EVERYTHING you need to know to choose and raise a happy, healthy kitten! While this guide is written with kittens in mind, most of the advice here works for newly adopted adult cats as well.
