The Taxidermist is a novel written by Ludlow Fitz Hugh. The book tells the story of a taxidermist named Harry who is obsessed with preserving the beauty of nature. Harry's passion for taxidermy is so strong that he begins to collect and preserve not only animals, but also humans. As his obsession grows, Harry becomes increasingly isolated from the world around him, and his relationships with his family and friends begin to deteriorate. The novel is a dark and disturbing exploration of the human psyche and the lengths that people will go to in order to satisfy their obsessions. Through Harry's story, the book raises questions about the ethics of taxidermy, the relationship between humans and animals, and the nature of obsession itself. The Taxidermist is a gripping and thought-provoking read that will appeal to fans of psychological thrillers and literary fiction. With its haunting prose and vivid imagery, the book offers a unique and unsettling glimpse into the mind of a man consumed by his own passions.`When the Flicker died, I felt that this only thing hitherto left to love me, could never reappear. The kind heart of the woman would beat again; the kind heart of the bird no more forever. And strangely enough, the whole sorrow that I had passed through for Miss Brentnall's loss revived, and I went about my day's work bearing the weight of a two-fold melancholy. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. A very few words will suffice to tell what hasheesh is. In northern latitudes the hemp plant (Cannabis Sativa) grows almost entirely to fibre, becoming, in virtue of this quality, the great resource for mats and cordage. Under a southern sun this same plant loses its fibrous texture, but secretes, in quantities equal to one third of its bulk, an opaque and greenish resin. Between the northern and the southern hemp there is no difference, except the effect of diversity of climate upon the same vegetable essence; yet naturalists, misled by the much greater extent of gummy secretion in the latter, have distinguished it from its brother of the colder soil by the name Cannabis Indica. The resin of the Cannabis Indica is hasheesh. From time immemorial it has been known among all the nations of the East as possessing powerful stimulant and narcotic properties; throughout Turkey, Persia, Nepaul, and India it is used at this day among all classes of society as an habitual indulgence. The forms in which it is employed are various. Sometimes it appears in the state in which it exudes from the mature stalk, as a crude resin; sometimes it is manufactured into a conserve with clarified butter, honey, and spices; sometimes a decoction is made of the flowering tops in water or arrack. Under either of these forms the method of administration is by swallowing. Again, the dried plant is smoked in pipes or chewed, as tobacco among ourselves. Used in whatever preparation, hasheesh is characterized by the most remarkable phenomena, both physical and spiritual. A series of experiments made with it by men of eminent attainments in the medical profession, principally at Calcutta, and during the last ten years, prove it to be capable of inducing all the ordinary symptoms of catalepsy, or even of trance.

The Music Essence is a book in the English language by Fitz Hugh Ludlow. This was the last bead on the rosary of the thoughts which I counted on that evening in the parlor. I had come to the cross-- a long hard work to be done--but I did not grudge it. Again, when we had separated for the night, I lay awake, hour after hour, considering at which end I should take hold of it. Then the finger of dreams put itself forth and touched the right place, without its aerial print vanishing. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. When Fitz Hugh Ludlow was in college, he found a jar of cannabis extract at his pharmacy, deduced that this was the fabled ¿hashish¿ described in The Arabian Nights and The Count of Monte Cristo, and gave in to his curiosity by swallowing a spoonful. His life would never be the same. The Hashish Eater attempts to describe the bizarre distortions of perspective and imagination that Ludlow experienced on extraordinarily large doses of cannabis. Because cannabis was mostly unknown in the English-speaking world at that time, he didn¿t have the vocabulary to describe his ¿trips,¿ and he couldn¿t expect his readers to have had similar experiences to compare. Because of this, he tests the limits of metaphor and creative description; and because of that, his work remains an important document to both understanding and poetically revealing the phenomenology of cannabis intoxication.

The Phial of Dread by An Analytic, written by Ludlow Fitz Hugh, is a suspenseful mystery novel. The story revolves around a mysterious and powerful phial that is said to contain a deadly substance capable of causing great harm. The protagonist, An Analytic, is a detective who is tasked with investigating the disappearance of the phial. As he delves deeper into the case, he uncovers a web of deceit, betrayal, and danger. Along the way, he encounters a cast of intriguing characters, including a wealthy businessman, a beautiful but enigmatic woman, and a dangerous criminal. As the story unfolds, An Analytic must use all of his skills and expertise to unravel the mystery and solve the case before it's too late. The Phial of Dread is a gripping and thrilling read that will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the very end.It is--as I see on looking at my last date--five days since I wrote in this record. I have been very ill; part of the time quite delirious, I think. How fortunate that I have been alone! Yes, even if I had died alone, how fortunate. The red-haired Denbighshire girl, who brings up my meals sometimes, I am quite sure, knocked in vain for entrance, so stertorous have been my slumbers; for although she has not a command of English sufficient to communicate that fact to me, I infer it from having found the salver, with my food all cold upon it, placed on the floor outside my room, long after meal-hours.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
