Tuesday, October 11, 1955 The Lipstick, Nick's high-rise office building on Market Street, finally has a restaurant on the twentieth floor. The Sky-Brau offers freshly-sliced meats, white linens, and luncheon with a view. It's the new hot-spot in town and, who knows, you might end up sharing a table with the mayor. While trying to get in for some carved roast beef, Nick and Carter run into a daughter with a missing father who's been at work in Africa and hasn't been heard from in a while. Her mother isn't concerned, however. He's been out in the field for months at a time before. But, for the daughter's sake, Nick agrees to look into things. Meanwhile, a real English lord shows up at the office with some disconcerting news and a favor to ask. Nick isn't sure who the man really is but decides to take him at his word. For the time being, at least. Over on Nob Hill, wedding bells are ringing for Carter's mother, the soon-to-be Mrs. Louise Richardson, and Nick and Carter's big pile of rocks is where the celebration will take place. The food, as always, will be delicious. The florist has brought a small army of helpers to deck out the house in the gayest way. The dining table is loaded with gifts for the bride and groom. And, there are a few unexpected guests who show up and bring some surprises of their own. It will be a day that none of the guests will soon forget.

But when the day starts off on a tragic note, will Nick and Carter be able to remember what the hard-won holiday is really for? Valentine's Day, 1951 Tuesday, February 13, 1951 What does the man who can buy anything get the man who doesn't want anything? That's the mystery Nick is trying to solve. With the help of his new secretary, Marnie Wilson, Nick is hoping he can come up with the perfect gift that will let Carter know how much he really loves the big fireman. Washington's Birthday, 1948 Monday, February 23, 1948 It's a holiday but Nick is feeling blue. It's all because his best guy, Carter, is working hard at Station 3 on Post Street, protecting the City by the Bay from fires, large and small. Maybe a bowl of navy bean soup at Gene Compton's Cafeteria and some friendly chatter with an old friend might just be the thing to cheer Nick up... Mardi Gras, 1975 Tuesday, February 11, 1975 Nick and Carter are in New Orleans for their first trip to Mardi Gras! When Nick first opens his eyes that morning, he realizes he has a big hangover and no memory of what happened the night before. Over a breakfast of coffee and grease, Miss Wanna Man, a local drag queen in the French Quarter, swings by to give Nick the Tea and let him know to watch his back. It's definitely an adventurous Fat Tuesday for Nick and Carter! Laissez les bons temps rouler! St. David's Day, 1848 Wednesday, March 1, 1848 It's the dark and early morning hours of St. David's Day and Griffith Williams, nestled and cozy next to his dear friend, Gwyn, is abruptly awakened by a man who calls out in a strange voice. "Great-grandfather?" Griffy is startled to see the shimmering form of a handsome man with bright and shining eyes. And they're a color of brown he's not seen before. The face, however, is more than a little familiar. With a dimple in the chin, it brings to mind memories of his late father, his tad, David. Is it evil or is it good which has brought forth this ghostly vision?
Wednesday, November 24, 1965 It's the day before Thanksgiving and Nick and Carter have been in Paris for nearly a month when an early-morning call brings the news they've both been dreading for three years: Louis Jones Richardson, Carter's mother, has passed away in her sleep. The funeral will be on Monday in her hometown of Albany, Georgia. With that, Nick is determined to find a way to get into Georgia since, in 1953, he and Carter signed an agreement they wouldn't enter the state without permission. And, in spite of the sad circumstances, neither the District Attorney in Albany nor the state's Attorney General are inclined to let them in. Help comes in the form of two of their operatives: Tom Jarrell and Ronnie Grisham. Meeting up in Miami on Thanksgiving Day, the four of them make the trek north and surreptitiously cross the Georgia-Florida state line in the early morning hours of Friday. At Belle Terre, a plantation-style house nestled between cotton fields and the banks of the Flint River south of Albany, Nick and Carter begin to play hosts to friends and family who come by to pay their respects, since neither man will be able to safely show their faces on the day of the funeral. But then something unexpected happens that turns a time for grieving into a devastating tragedy...
Monday, October 15, 1962 It's way too early on a Monday morning, but Nick and Carter are making their way across the country to a clandestine meeting in Miami with Bobby Kennedy at the Attorney General's request. During a stop in New Orleans, they meet a kid who catches Carter's eye. He seems to be smart and on the ball and might be just the right fit for leading up the newest division of WilliamsJones, Inc. On their last leg into Miami, they receive a radiogram that R.F.K. has had to cancel at the last minute. Determined to get some good poolside time in the hot sun, they continue on to the Sunshine State where they meet a man who turns out to recognize Carter's latest hire. What the two have in common is a third man: Henry Thibodeaux, the kid's long-last father and the man's long-last lover. And, as so often happens, Henry Thibodeaux has disappeared into the wilds of San Francisco. So, the team at the newly-renamed WilliamsJones Security sets out to scour the City for any trace of the derelict dad. As they do, they discover the man they're looking for is also being hunted down by someone bent on seeking revenge... Will Nick and Carter and all the gang find Henry Thibodeaux in time? Find out in this, the first book in a three-part story arc, that's all about what happens when a father, who has abandoned his family to find his fortune, finally has to come to terms with his past.
Saturday, October 20, 1962 Nick and Carter are on their way to New Orleans to track down a missing father. When they arrive, Carter is in hog heaven, surrounded by the sights and sounds of New Orleans jazz up and down Bourbon Street. He even gets to sit near the stage as one of his favorite musicians leads the band with his swinging clarinet and impish smile. "Mack the Knife" never sounded so good! That night, Nick has one of his dreams. He meets his great-grandfather, Griffith Williams, and learns a new word: bach. It's a Welsh term of endearment for a younger person, such as a great-grandson. Meanwhile, back in San Francisco, one of Nick and Carter's operatives has broken out of the county jail after turning himself in for killing a man. The district attorney, of course, believes that Nick is behind the escape. As does the mayor, the governor, and, of course, the Examiner. Before long, Nick is once again seated at the defense table in Superior Court for the County of San Francisco. This is their third try. Will the prosecution finally be able to lock him up at the state prison down in Soledad? Or will Nick, with the help of his team of brilliant lawyers, be acquitted a third time? Find out in the exciting conclusion to this three-book arc that's all about what happens when a father, who has abandoned his family to find his fortune, finally has to come to terms with his past. The tale starts with The Derelict Dad, followed by The Shifting Scion, and concludes here with The Beloved Bach.
Howdy! I'm Eddie Smith and this is the story of my third romantical adventure with my new husband, Whit Hall. OMG! Can you believe we got married? Well, anyway, we did and it's been three and change mostly blissful months and, well, that thing that everyone asks us about still hasn't happened... Not that I'm in any sort of rush. Whit and I still have lots of fun in all sorts of, uh, creative ways. In case you're wondering, the world's oldest teenager, Ronnie Grisham, is still alive and butting his nose in other people's business, namely mine and Whit's. Now he's got it in his head that we need to move even though we just bought a house in Ormond Beach, just north of Daytona. Kids these days... Watcha gonna do? Meanwhile, that made-for-TV movie that everyone's been talkin' about is set to start shooting in a day or two in a place called Hope (LOL) up in British Columbia. Because, you know, this kinda movie always gets made in Canada. To get ready for his close-up, Whit's been down in Miami working with a touchy-feely guy who's been giving him a crash course in how to act in front of a camera. He's driving back up right now and is due home any moment, so I can't talk for long. Let's see... Was there anything else I wanted to mention? Oh, right! Well... Whit's nervous. Of course. And I'm trying to help him relax. And my friends in Orlando still think I've lost my mind and that I got married and bought a house too fast. That doesn't keep them away from the pool and the great view of the river, though. And my mom is doing fine in Austin. Whit's mom has been on radio silence even though she's been to see President Trump. Twice. Oh well... Ooh! Gotta go. Whit just texted that he's about ten minutes away. I'm so excited about going to Canada and watching Whit become a movie star. Woo hoo! I can't wait to find out what happens next!

It's Thursday morning, the 2nd of October in 1947, and Ronnie Grisham and his pal, Tom Jarrell, are now married... To women, of course... And, for appearance's sake and to get a much-needed break from work, Ronnie figures they really should go on a honeymoon. So, the two couples board the southbound Champion for Miami. It's all aboard for romance! But not in the way their fellow passengers would imagine, no doubt. Once there, they get a chance to see Miss Doris Day, who is touring with Les Brown and his Band of Renown. And a good time is had by all! But all good things must come to an end and, after dropping the gals off at the airport, the guys rent a car and hit the Overseas Highway to head down into the Florida Keys. Just when it looks like Tom and Ronnie will finally get some time to themselves, a friend of theirs comes across a dead Cuban and is found holding the gun. He says he didn't do it, but the State's Attorney isn't convinced... Looks like it's back to work for Daytona Beach's most infamous lawyer and his private dick!
Wednesday, August 11, 1954 Nick and Carter are sailing across the sea to Honolulu on an impromptu holiday. For the sake of propriety and decorum, the ship's captain pairs them off with a "lady couple" who turn out to be much more than they appear at first glance. When one of them turns up dead in Nick and Carter's cabin, the hunt is on to find the other one before it's too late.
Sunday, February 6, 1955 It's Sunday night and Nick has decided he wants to get back in the kitchen to make a couple of pans of lasagna for dinner, something he hasn't done since he and Carter moved into the big pile of rocks on Nob Hill. Captain Daniel O'Reilly, pilot of The Flirtatious Captain, is bringing a friend for dinner. Instead of his latest love interest, the captain introduces Nick and Carter to an old friend, a man who is on his last legs and who has a favor to ask: can Nick and Carter help him get his girl and her son out of Red China? That's where things begin but it's far from where they end...
Monday, January 2, 1956 Nick and Carter have arrived safely in Paris and were even greeted at the airport by a minor government official and a small detachment of the famous Republican Guard. After taking a week to recover from their Christmas adventures in Vermont, they're ready to move into their new house over in the 4th Arrondissement. It takes three cabs to get the whole gang over there from their hotel and, as they stand on the sidewalk outside, none of them can quite believe what they find: a crumbling building, a trash-filled courtyard, several broken windows, and, as Nick tentatively pushes the front door open, the stench of a rotting corpse. The police know that none of them could possibly have committed the crime but what about the mysterious Madame Marika, who has suddenly disappeared? Is she back behind the Iron Curtain? Or has she too been murdered? The entire household gets involved in solving the mystery, dashing around the city that is their new home, and discovering, in the end, the bonds of love and friendship they have brought with them from San Francisco, across the Atlantic Ocean, and to La Ville-Lumière--Paris: The City of Light. And that's only the beginning...
Friday, November 11, 1955 It's Veteran's Day, and a gorgeous one at that. Parades of flying flags and grizzled old soldiers marching to the tunes of John Philip Souza are definitely in the works. Meanwhile, Nick and Carter are heading south on Highway 1 for a relaxing week down in Big Sur, just south of beautiful Carmel-By-The-Sea. They'll be staying at the home of one Dr. Parnell Williams, Nick's father. It's a modern sort of thing, made of wood and glass, and perched right on the cliff's edge with dramatic views of the ocean and the incoming banks of fog. But when the power goes out late at night and the newly-installed generator kicks on, it's not long before Carter is dragging a bewildered Nick to the front door because, it turns out, someone intentionally disconnected the vent and the house quickly fills up with deadly carbon monoxide. As they search for their would-be murderer, Nick and Carter quickly discover all sorts of secrets, hidden away among the verdant valleys and stands of Monterey pines. Secrets that go back twenty years, or more, and stories of wild times that would deeply shock the gawking tourists from Topeka and Des Moines, if they only knew. Will Nick and Carter uncover the killer before he, or she, strikes again? To find out, jump into the nearest convertible and follow the narrow, twisting highway that takes you through the land of towering, ancient redwoods and mountains that crash into the bright, blue ocean below. It's gonna be a wild ride!

Deciding to ride out the storm in the harbor of an uncharted island, Bob is forced to deal with painful memories from not only his past but from Mario's as well.Once the storm passes, the island begins to reveal its hidden secrets and turns out to be where real love finally finds a place in Bob's life and in his heart and in a way that is beyond what he ever imagined possible.------Golden Gate Love Stories are all about the lives and loves of men who fall in love with each other and find the one they were waiting for.Set in the same universe as the Nick Williams Mystery Series, these love stories focus on the men who come together, find true love, and really do live happily ever after.
Wednesday, June 16, 1954 Construction on the new twenty-story building for Consolidated Security at the corner of Market and Montgomery is ahead of schedule, thanks to Henry and Pam. Nick is looking forward to his office on the nineteenth floor. The twentieth floor is designed to be a restaurant. He's hoping for French or Italian. Carter wants something with less garlic. But then an unknown man falls from the top of the steel skeleton and things grind to a halt. When Henry gets a late-night call warning him and Nick to not investigate, Mike takes action to protect them both but Nick gets a late-night visit from some wiseguys and it doesn't end well... for them. That's just the beginning of a tale of mobsters, refugees, and The Old Poodle Dog that twists and turns its way to a thrilling conclusion. In the end, it's an adventure for Nick, Carter, and the whole gang in the City we love the most: Baghdad By The Bay.
Monday, March 7, 1955 It's been a big year for Nick & Carter and they are finally back home in San Francisco, trying to take it easy after all their globe-trotting adventures. But, there's no rest for the weary, not yet, as Nick learns about the last place his mother lived before she died and is off again, across the country, going from the warm waters of the South Pacific to his first real-life snowstorm in New England. As he and Carter, helped by Frankie & Maria Vasco, meet some of the people who once knew Nick's mother and learn more about who she was and who she loved, they also encounter one of the most disturbing things to come from Nick's own past. After a policeman is murdered and other innocent people are threatened, Nick realizes it's time to put a stop to a killer's madness, even if it means that he has to pull the trigger himself.
Tuesday, June 28, 1960 Nick and Carter are about to witness history! It's an exciting time in Léopoldville, capital of the Belgian Congo and their temporary home on the south side of the Congo River. After living in Africa for nearly two years, they will be on the ground when the colony becomes an independent nation able to govern itself following a tragic history. They've been busy, of course. Nick owns a hotel and a clinic while Carter has opened two gyms on both sides of the river--one in Léopoldville and one in Brazzaville in the French colony on the far shore. As they begin to wrap up their lives in Africa and prepare for their next big move, something terrifying and disturbing happens that suddenly accelerates their plan. Before they have time to do much more than pack a few clothes, they're unceremoniously sent down to the docks to wait for the ferry that will take them across the river and back into the safety of the French Congo. Where they go next leads them smack into the biggest challenge the two men have had to face in the 13 years since they first met across a crowded room.
Howdy! I'm Eddie Smith and this is the story of my second romantical adventure with my new boyfriend, Whit Hall. Well, we're back in Daytona Beach and have been for about five weeks. After everything went down with Whit's family in East Texas, it sure has been nice just to be here, getting to know each other more and more every day. Mostly, we've been watching old Perry Mason episodes on DVD and eating lots of pizza. But Whit has been going to the gym every day. I go too... Sometimes...Anyway... We woke up this morning and were both freezing! We just had a cold snap. They're rare in North Central Florida, but they do happen. And, on top of all that, the heater has gone out. But, cuddled up next to Whit is keeping us both warm, so I guess it might be not so bad. You know how weird it is when you thought someone was dead but then you find out they aren't? Kinda freaky, right? Well, that's what's just happened. See, there's this guy who used to be a private detective here in town with his husband who was an attorney. And that was way back in the day. They left Daytona in the 50s and moved down to Fort Lauderdale. I think they were required to do so by the gay committee or something like that. Anyway, I just got a call from a guy who says that Ronnie Grisham (he's the private eye I mentioned) is not only alive, but he's living in a big house over on the beachside. Not only that, he's 102 years old and he wants to see me. Wow! Whit and I are on our way over right now. I have a feeling something big is about to go down. I can't wait to find out what happens next!
Tuesday, January 11, 1955 It's a cold January morning. As Nick and Carter sip their hot coffee in an attempt to stay warm, passers-by are stopping to gawk at San Francisco's newest skyscraper at 600 Market Street. The grand opening goes off without a hitch (and without the Mayor or anyone else of note, for that matter). Meanwhile, back on Bush Street, Nick has a new client. Her name is Mrs. Anne-Marie Boudier. She's charming. She's chic. She was at Marnie's wedding on the groom's side. And she wants Nick to find her long lost husband. So she can kill him. And so begins a twisting and turning escapade of old secrets and new betrayals that will eventually take Nick and Carter across the Atlantic Ocean as they finally discover who the real traitor is.
Howdy! I'm Eddie Smith and this is the story of my first romantical adventure with my new boyfriend, Whit Hall.I'm 52 and a big bear of a guy. Whit is 35 and a tall, muscled retired pro football player. Apparently, opposites do attract!Funny thing is, though... Whit knows more about classic movies than me and, it turns out, he loves 70s music as much as I do... Maybe we're not so different, after all...Anyway, we're here on Mo'orea, the island next door to Tahiti, and it's amazing! We've got a nice bungalow over a beautiful harbor and, well, it's beyond romantic...What you might not know is that Whit and I have only known each other for a few days. And, even though we had a rocky start, the topic of marriage has already come up. Too soon? Probably...And like the song says, we're getting to know each other...Only thing is... There's this guy who's following us around the island and he might be taking pics of us because, well, it's a big deal when Whit Hall, only son of a big-time megachurch preacher who hangs with Trump, turns out to be gay... I hope the internet doesn't find out!* * *ABOUT THE SERIES: THE ROMANTICAL ADVENTURES OF WHIT & EDDIEHowdy! I'm Eddie. Whit and I have fallen in love way too fast. We're jumping into our new life together in ways that no one with a lick of sense should ever do.Woo hoo! This is going to be fun!

But, when he gets to the office, he realizes he has a few things that need to be done. For one, he needs to file an affidavit in a murder trial, but he's never done any such thing, so he heads off to his old law school to meet with his favorite professor from before the war to get some much-needed advice. And, while there, he gets much more than he was expecting. Meanwhile, Ronnie Grisham is in trouble with his landlady. He hasn't slept in his boarding house bed for two nights and she just read her cards last night. Change is coming. Could the cards be pointing to Ronnie? As for Marveen Dodge, her suspicions about what is really going on at the law office of Tom Jarrell, Esquire, is like a simmering pot that could boil over at any moment. And, Alice Watson is doing just fine, thank you very much, and looking forward to a nice Saturday at the beach with her girl. But, none of them expects what happens next as two mysterious girls arrive in town, suitcases in hand... And an unexpected trial gets underway... Read about all of this, and more, in the case of THE LAWYER WHO LEAPT.

Nick's least favorite time of the year. But, Carter wants a Christmas tree and Dr. Parnell Williams, Nick's evil bastard of a father, has summoned them both to the mansion on Sacramento Street for Christmas day at 12 noon. And they're not to be late. In the end, Christmas brings Nick & Carter a number of unexpected and life-changing packages, both big and small.
Monday, June 6, 1966 Nick, Carter, and the gang are off to the bright lights of Broadway! Angela Lansbury is starring at the Winter Garden in Mame, and everyone is excited to see the biggest smash hit since Fiddler on the Roof! Well, almost everyone. Mike has demanded a motorcycle road trip up the Hudson River Valley as compensation for having to squeeze into a tux. Poor guy! Reluctantly, Nick agrees and, the day after a fabulous night of singing and dancing, they're loaded up and making their way over the George Washington Bridge, up the scenic Palisades Parkway, and heading to points north. But the trip is over when one of their friends takes a spill on the highway and ends up in traction. Nick and Carter do what they can to help and then return to Manhattan to take care of pressing business in the city before flying home. However, after hearing a tale that is right out a mystery novel and receiving a desperate call about a murder, Nick and Carter head back upstate, hot on the trail of the curious case of The Manic Mechanic!
Monday, December 19, 1955 It's early in the morning and Carter is worried that he and Nick won't be warm enough for their Christmas trip to Vermont. Nick, for his part, is wondering if they will ever be able to return to the big pile of rocks he's finally come to love. An exile in France isn't the worst thing in the world but still... But before they can get much more than halfway from San Francisco to Vermont, they discover that the mob is after them and is on their tails, chasing them across the country as they take planes, trains, and automobiles. They finally get to Vermont, all covered in freshly-fallen white snow, and begin to wonder if it will be their last Christmas, after all.

This compilation includes ten short stories and novellas all involving Nick Williams and Carter Jones along with their friends and family and centered around specific holidays. St. Patrick's Day, 1945 Nick Williams is in the U.S. Navy and working at a base in New Guinea as a hospital corpsman. Meanwhile, back home, Carter Jones is working as a fireman at Station 3 on Polk Street in San Francisco. The two have yet to meet and are thousands of miles away. Easter, 1929 Mrs. Wilson Jones (Louise) of Albany, Georgia, wakes up on yet another Sunday morning to discover her husband didn't come home after carousing down at Louray's by the river. But she doesn't have time to worry. Mrs. Jones has biscuits to bake. There's work to be done and Mrs. Jones is a good cook, keeps a clean house, and always delivers on her promises. May Day, 1970 Sam Halversen is still on the run and is just fine with that. But, when a friend from the past has a job for him to do, does that mean Sam's finally ready to come in from the cold? Cinco de Mayo, 1963 It's a chilly Sunday morning and Nick and Carter have been invited by their cook, Doris, to join her family down in Mountain View for a big party celebrating a holiday they've never heard of: Cinco de Mayo. Mother's Day, 1978 It's 3 in the morning and Carter is dancing the night away at the Trocadero Transfer. As time drags on, however, Nick decides to have a seat and maybe rest his eyes for just a moment... This Mother's Day will be one Nick will remember for a long, long time. Decoration Day, 1933 It's Decoration Day and Nick has decided to skip school because he doesn't want to take his history test. With a fistful of money, he tries to convince his sister, Janet to join in the fun. Will they have the time of their lives or will someone snitch and turn them over to the police for truancy? Father's Day, 2005 It's Father's Day and Nick and Carter are having breakfast later that morning with the two kids who've become like sons over the past couple of years. Both their fathers have been long gone, but that doesn't mean that Father's Day won't be a meaningful one. Gay Freedom Day, 1977 It's the 70s and, as the day unfolds, it becomes more and more obvious to Nick that nothing is like it used to be... But love is still love and, by the end of the day, Nick is in Carter's strong arms, and all is as it should be. Independence Day, 1976 It's America's Bicentennial! And it's a day the whole country has been anticipating for a while. But on Sacramento Street... between breakfast with a famous French director and actress, a Soviet defector who really doesn't like Nick, and a completely unexpected visitor from the past... There might be a few metaphorical fireworks before the sun finally sets on the Golden Gate. Bastille Day, 1957 It's Bastille Day in France and Nick and Carter are hosting a party at their house overlooking the Mediterranean just outside of Nice. What happens when the only man to have abdicated the throne meets the richest homosexual in the world?
Friday, July 8, 1955 Ben White, a movie producer working on Nick's dime, is ready to show off what he's been up to, so Nick and Carter head to Hollywood to see what there is to see and, to be polite, it stinks. Ben's director has an idea and he says it's gonna make Nick even richer than he already is. But, before they can start the cameras rolling, leading man William Fraser is found murdered at the lavish Beverly Hills mansion of seductive silent screen star Juan Zane. Carlo Martinelli, Ben's lover, is arrested and charged with murder even though everyone in town knows he's innocent, including the District Attorney. Meanwhile, the Beverly Hills Police Chief makes sure that Nick knows that his kind of help isn't wanted in the posh village, home to some of Hollywood's most famous stars. The chief is running a good, clean, wholesome town, after all. From Muscle Beach to Mulholland Drive, Nick and Carter begin to piece together the clues that point to who did it and why. Somehow they manage to do so in the sweltering heat and noxious smog of the Southland. In the end, however, will anyone be brought to justice? It's Hollywood, so you'll have to wait for the final reel to find out.
Friday, October 23, 1953 "Nick! You and Carter have to throw a party for Halloween this year! It's on a Saturday, after all!" Grudgingly, Nick agrees to be the less-than-amiable host to what turns out to be a bizarre event that will long be remembered by everyone who attends... When the party is obviously going to be much bigger than Nick & Carter expected, they begin to realize something mysterious is brewing under their very noses. Down in their own basement, as a matter of fact. A two-timing girlfriend, a locked door, and an unexpected visit from the F.B.I. are just some of the clues that begin to add up to a particularly perplexing Halloween. So, come on you ghosts and ghouls, witches and warlocks, put on your Halloween best for you have been invited to a memorable evening at 137 Hartford Street in San Francisco on Saturday, October 31, 1953. Come on in and join the party. If you dare...
This is my memoir of something that never happened. I woke up and discovered I was living a different life. It was the life I'd always wanted. A tall, dark, and handsome husband... A beautiful home... A fantastic career... Life was good before. It was wonderful. But then, I woke up one Saturday morning and discovered it was different. This is my metaphysical memoir of something that never happened. Or did it? In the tradition of The Oversoul Seven series of books by Jane Roberts, this fictional novella explores what might happen if you were to wake up one morning and find yourself in the familiar, yet also unfamiliar, world of a slightly different self. Using the metaphysical concept of a parallel reality, Frank W. Butterfield, a Master Channel since 1990, uses details from his own life and spins them into a fictional tale of possibilities. Or, in other words: a memoir that never happened.
Monday, August 8, 1960 It's been three weeks since the case against Nick and Carter was dismissed and life has moved on. They're at home in the big pile of rocks on Nob Hill and doing swell. It's been two weeks since Nick started seeing Dr. Sylvester, an analyst who offices in The Shell Building on Bush Street. And on this particular Monday, at 1 p.m., the good doctor will ask Nick an important question that turns out to be something Nick has never truly considered. As he ponders the answer, he begins to wonder about the nature of his relationship with Carter. Psychoanalysis can do that, you know. Meanwhile, a new client wants to see Nick. He claims that only Nick will be able to catch his cheating wife in the act. And it might end up being a good deal for everyone involved. Well, almost everyone. In order to work the case, Nick decides he needs to grow out his beard so no one will recognize him as he prowls the City. Of course, Carter is along for the ride because beard burn isn't good. So they're off to the woods for 10 days to rough it. Or are they? Don't turn that dial! The further adventures of Nick and Carter will continue after these messages from our sponsors.
