Die Neubearbeitung des Dehio Westfalen gibt eine Übersicht über die wichtigsten Bau-und Kunstdenkmäler des nordöstlichen Landesteils von Nordrhein-Westfalen. Dem gewandelten Denkmalverständnis entsprechend, fanden zusätzlich zu den traditionellen Denkmälern, die bereits in der vorherigen Ausgabe von 1969 verzeichnet waren, weitere Denkmalgruppen angemessene Berücksichtigung: bäuerliche und bürgerliche Privatarchitektur, Bauten des Historismus und des 20. Jahrhunderts, Hinterlassenschaften der Industrie sowie Gärten. Die beschreibende Analyse aller Objekte stützt sich auf zeitnahe Besichtigung der Autoren/Autorinnen und den aktuellen Forschungsstand. Grundrisse, Orts- und Lagepläne wurden überarbeitet und z. T neu gezeichnet. Ein ausführliches Künstlerregister erschließt den Band.

Die Neuauflage des Dehio Thüringen enthält neben notwendigen Korrekturen einzelner Fehler vor allem umfängliche Aktualisierungen. Es wurden Ergänzungen aufgrund von neuen Forschungen und abgeschlossenen Sanierungen vorgenommen und die neue Schwerpunkte sowohl bei den Objekttexten als auch, in einem gewissen Umfang, bei der Objektauswahl gesetzt. Insbesondere sind die baulichen Zeugnisse des 20. Jahrhunderts in angemessener Weise und damit deutlich stärker gewichtet. Die Bearbeitung erfolgte in der bewährten Partnerschaft zwischen der Dehio-Vereinigung und dem zuständigen Landesamt für Denkmalpflege in Thüringen, erweitert um die Mitarbeit der Professur Denkmalpflege und Baugeschichte der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Denkmälerhandbuch und praktisches Nachschlagewerk für die Reise und den Schreibtisch Übersichtlich gegliedert und mit umfangreichem Karten- und Planmaterial ausgestattet.
